It would be a good point if anyone actually wanted to buy it, but they don't.

The closest we have is some senile old ****er that wants it for free, HCC are right to keep hold of it.

It's estimated that over a million people will turn out to watch the Tour de Yorkshire, generating around £30-40m and the cost of hosting a stage is not massive. There's also the exposure a place like Bridlington will get and the spin-off benefits in return visitors etc, it was really a no brainer, not getting involved is an opportunity wasted.

The money is minuscule really when you consider the number of places involved and how the majority of that money will be generated by the crowds in Leeds/York. Divide the money up and there is very little profit if any to be made.

Exposure is another issue all together, however the council will have a finite budget for promotion ahead of 2017 and clearly this didn't feature.

The money generated on most of the route will be negligible, but I think there'll be a significant income for the places that have a start or finish spot.

Hull will probably benefit when all the stolen bikes finish up on Walton Street market and in dodgy second hand shops.

Unfortunatly you are totally wrong. Most stuff nicked in Hull ends up in Liverpool.

Is it really such a big thing ? I went to see the milk race once (does that still exist ?) You stand for what seems like hours as the close the road ages before the race comes through. Then a few riders come through hell for leather so you can't see their numbers or who they are. Then a few seconds later about 50 of them come through, packed so close that you can't see who they are. Then a police car comes through. Then they open the road and you can go home. Plenty of better things for the council to spend their money on.

Pretty much summed it up there but cycling is the in thing at the moment so people are/pretend to be interested.

Yes, cycling will never get big crowds or television audiences. Look at the Tour De France for example.
No one lining the route spends any money either.
You seem to have the same business acumen as the council.

Have you sat down and calculated the cost to host the event? Compared that with the projected income to the region and the potential future revenue? Assessed that with regards to the public events budget? And then made an educated decision?

The council have and I'm almost certain you haven't, don't criticise things you know nothing about.

So tell us, what would the costs and projected income have been?

More than the Freedom Festival or less? How much so?

Please inform us so that we know that you know about in and can therefore make an educated decision.

Presumably Barnaby has compared the costs with the income, he may be a twat, but he's not a complete idiot.

An East Riding of Yorkshire councillor has spoken of the economic benefits the Tour de Yorkshire will bring to Yorkshire and in particularly, Bridlington...

I don't know, just as you don't know nor does anyone else not involved with the council, hence me highlighting how stupid it is for you to criticise the councils business acumen on this issue.

Without the facts (which you have preciously none) your just making speculative assertions.
