The reason HCC aren't hosting a start or a finish to this event is quite simple, they are ****wits. What a great appetiser and reminder could have been laid down for the 'City of Culture'.
The irony of you posting that when you yourself are making assertions based on ignorance (you are ignorant of what any benefits would be) and the preconceived notion it would not bring money into the area. They haven't weighed up the pros and cons. It would have cost them £100,000 for the race to come here. They didn't weigh up any benefits they decided they couldn't afford to lay it out. It will be interesting toose what pet projects they do decide to spend money on and what they bring to the city.compared to the cost. Given their past track record it will be more than interesting.
There's no doubt that Bridlington has suffered for decades, much as Hull has and is now a shadow of it's former self. But much like Hull, there are encouraging signs, the restoration of the Spa and the proposed new Marina will hopefully be a catalyst for further redevelopment and the staging of this event can only improve things further.
Why would they want to ride round hull an East yorkshire anyway? The areas flatter than Kate Middletons chest.
The restoration of the Spa is great news, last went their to see the Kinks in 1970, but, unfortunately, most folk won't see or be too impressed with that; a proposed Marina won't have too much impact either. That leaves you with a shoddy resort that they will try and tart up for the occasion, but good luck to them. Scarborough, even though I go there for weekends every now and then (next one in Feb), doesn't stand up to close scrutiny and it will be getting close scrutiny.
I went to Brid last year as my daughter was in a show at the Spa. You could tell the place was changing - much improved.
Don't hold your breath on the proposed marina. Back in the 60s a bloke from Brid who had made a fortune in Canada offered to build a marina and present it to the town. Various groups held it up for their own self interests, notably the Harbour Commissioners and councillors who didn't want to lose the cheap labour they used in a summer. In the end the plans were the basis of the marina built in Brighton. The biggest bay on the East coast would have been a major attraction for well off yacht owners.
I haven't made any assertions, hence there's no irony. I've simply stated the cost and benefits are not public knowledge as such it is ignorant to form the opinions that you have. The second paragraph of your post just confirms this.
If the costs and benefits are not public knowledge how do you know it would not make money for the city? In any case you are wrong. The cost is public knowledge. Maybe you didn't read it?
Once again you miss the point. I'm bored of this now, believe what you want, fact or fiction it doesn't usually matter to you anyway.
I don't think I was 7 so it had to be 1970! I distinctly recall almost getting caught with a full tray of drinks by the plod and thought an underage drinking charge was beckoning when they were distracted by a superb cat-fight, all claws and knickers!
