I saw a flash behind me driving back after Saturday's game. Presumed it was for someone else, I was long gone. Hope they were being tested.
Got stopped on the M18 20 years ago doing 100+ on my bike. I had legal cover with the AA so I met this lawyer on the day at court in Doncaster. Conversation went like this: Lawyer: which bit of road were you on? Me: M18 after A1 turn and before M180 Lawyer: Was it a marked car that stopped you? Me: No. Lawyer: What kind of car? Me: Volvo I think. Lawyer: Colour? Me: Blue, does this matter? Lawyer: Well, I drive home that way so I want to watch out for it... True story. He got me off with 6 points and £140.
You can also use the permanent roadside speed checks (Askew Ave and Pickering Rd in Hull each have one) to check your speedometer. Mine often reads as 35mph but the roadside check will read about 31mph.
I got caught 60 in a 50 zone,, I didnt know I had been caught and when I,opened the post, I was annoyed at first It was tea time and the local news was on. It featured a report that a young woman had been killed riding a scooter on the same stretch of road. Lesson learnt. Fine and points. She had been a victim of a hit and run, the driver, got a prison sentence. I drive that same bit of road two or three times a week. 48 miles an hour now. I speed, but now I max out at 78. I do not know what I would do if I caused someone elses death. But I still wonder why, when the road conditions allow, like at 2 am on an empty motorway the limit stays at 70.
Going back to the original question, AFAIK IF you are caught on several cameras it is only one offence. Remember the offence is speeding on a motorway, and not setting off a camera on a motorway. It classes as the same offence detected multiple times. However, the caveat here is that if you are sent multiple NIPs/S172s you must fill them all in, return them and then argue afterwards. You can still get 6 points for failing to return them even if the alleged offence turns out to be unproven. Ludicrous system! Good luck - I find those 'smart' motorways a bloody menace!
What idiot travels at 90 mph through a smart motorway when they're already on 9 points? He deserved a ban just for being so stupid.
I've heard the same thing but it was told it was the speed cameras themselves that can be out by +/- 10%. Either way you won't get a ticket if you're within that 10%.
I was doing over 80, speedo said about 85 ... To be fair I'm not bothered about that , I'll take the 3 points and the ticket ... My whole confusion is the 3 flashes that followed at 60 , nothing heard yet .. 5 days down - 9 to go ..
If you were driving by the average speed cameras at night they have a very bright beam of light covering all three lanes to assist the photiograph - its on all the time at night - as you drive through the beam it feels like a flash - it isnt
Thank you , this is the kind of info I have been boring everybody I have talked to this week , trying to find out
I don't know how people manage to get caught speeding more than once let alone so many times. Do your brakes not work or are you just never paying any attention?
Adaptive cruise control set to 70 on motorways. Speed limiter set to 20, 30, whatever when I can be arsed to put my foot on the accelerator. Haven't been caught speeding since I adopted these policies.
Mine involves a My situation involves an uncomfy premier inn Bed , and an unscheduled 1am trip through the moores and a unhappy wife
I got stopped in Scotland for speeding and the officer who stopped me, but this was with static camera's, said to me set you speed at 79 miles an hour and you wont flash the camera's. I adopted that advise, and never got caught again.
To be honest , I had to travel to Wolverhampton for work on Monday , and due to this incident , I don't think I went above 65 ... And it was the most pleasant journey I've ever had , no need for last minute lane jumps or cutting people up at roundabouts due to wrong lane, has time to read signs etc , and all in all probably added 25 minutes or so to the normal trip ... Reckon I'll be sticking to that from now on, so apologies if you get stuck behind
I am expecting a letter any day now from a van that was on the bridge over the M74 south bound from Glasgow. Well pissed off as I knew it was there having done that route many times. They're still not doing speed awareness courses in Scotland either - twats.
