I prefer classic cars and know next to nothing about motorbikes, however I think I'm verging on a midlife crisis and I want a motorbike. It needs to be a project so if anyone's got one in the corner of the garage that they need gone let me know.
I'm keeping mine as it's a labour of love (and hate) what's your budget and what are you thinking about? BSA Bantams are relatively cheap and simple and parts are readily available. That is unless you build a trials based Bantam and everything has to be fabricated from scratch because nothing fits off the peg.
Probably something like a late 80's Yamaha fzr I've been offered a 1980 Suzuki gsx 250 I thought about doing as a cafe racer A friend has got a tiger cub and a65 lightening sat doing nothing but they aren't really for me
Ha ha I haven't even got a bike licence, I probably won't even ride it. It's a crisis im going through, I'm booked in for a tattoo a week on Monday
The piece of **** as it is affectionately know started off life like this, I picked it up from Colchester a few months before my Mum died as a 'project'. I lost interest in it for about 12 - 18 months then I started to dismantle it, saw it was actually far worse than I had imagined. The original frame had been butchered by a cretin, so I kept just the engine and the frame as they have matched VIN numbers. please log in to view this image I then spent a kings ransom and below is what it looks like now, hasn't really progressed since last Summer as I've had other jobs on the go that took priority. It just needs quite a few little jobs doing, but they're all a pain in the arse as you have to fabricate almost everything from scratch. Literally nothing off the peg fits, so front mudguard fenders need shortening and widening. I was thinking of competing in pre 65 trials when it's done, I still might, but at the rate I'm going it'll be 2027 The frame below has been built from scratch, so the only original part of the bike in the frame below is the engine. The old frame above is just hanging in the garage for prosperity. please log in to view this image
80's classics, good idea as they are going up in value, just make sure of parts availability before buying a wreck. Saw in a bike mag a while ago that there is a guy specialising in older Yamaha parts. RD 250 / 350 would be good. If you want to make some money for your labour i would suggest going for originality rather than custom.
I have been on the look out for one of these Honda Motocompo bikes. They were designed to fit in the boot of a Honda City Car - Handlebars and Seat fold into the top part - look ace. I want one for our Campervan. please log in to view this image
If you search for that on google images, the line at the bottom of the page below the search is a bit mind boggling.
I did have a 197x something small frame Vespa Douglas - sold it on eBay. I could literally have sold it a hundred times over.
I had a purple Budgie. It was the smallest one of the Raleigh 'Chopper' family. I bet I looked a right tit bombing about on it.
