It's the last day of the season and we are off to our local rivals Poxford with high hopes of spoiling their party, we did our best last week by letting Stanley beat us at AP now we must finish the job by winning at the three sided hovel. I'm not bothered who Gaz picks for this one as long as they are prepared to give it their all, we know that Blooms, Luke O and Sam Wood are out but JJ could start. I will be at this one giving it my all (if anyone needs a ticket I may have one available) we are off to Bicester on the train to Spoons to warm up then a lift to the hovel it could be messy just like Chelsea Spurs on Monday fighting for every ball and more and it will be noisy when those Blues go marching in victorious.
Last game of the season with nothing to play for - a little dissapointing but hopefully should be a good day regardless. A plymouth style performance to ruin oxfords promotion party would be fantastic, even if it means helping rovers to promotion! I will be making the journey down from stoke for this one, lets hope we have something to cheer and maybe even a goal!
Nice way to end the season. Even Luton finished above us. I did say a little while back that we would be lucky to finish in the top 10 but I don't think we could have done much worse than that.
Shameful end to a mediocre season. You cant really call the whole season poor - up until the villa cup game it was actually quite good, since then there has been a couple of key results, but the form in the last 3 months is shocking To put it into persective, when we beat rovers at the end of February we were 3 points ahead of them - the finished 21 points ahead. Going back to yeaterday specifically, we were set out for a draw that much was clear. First half it actually worked quite well, then soon as thier first went in we were there for the taking and lucky to only concede 3 really. Ainsworth bringing on liburd (who must challenge donichian as worst signing of the season) when we were 1-0 down (i mean the second went in before he came on, but the decision was made at 1-0) summed it up really - when we had the pacier and more creative sellers or sellars avaliable - just showed a lack of spark in the whole front line. Having said that ugwu should have scored. Finally credit to oxford - i thought they looked very good as a side, although i see hylton is still auditioning for team GB diving and im yet to see the hype behind roofe. I think they will stay up quite easily next year if they manage to keep hold of thier key players At least now we can sit back and actually enjoy the playoffs as neutrals!
The one coincidence Rovers go up because Accrington failed to score Rovers went down because they failed to score. As you say the last three months have been really poor& Thompson & Hayes never worked out.
Going into a game with a game plan of not conceding and hoping to snatch a goal will only end one way and finishing 13th next season with the present load of misfiring misfits will be beyond them without some decent signings both loans and permanent it a bottom half finish for us next term
