But this is Sunderland Bri, where of late all players get played out of position <laugh> in saying that based on his appearances so far, you reckon he's worth 10mil?

I'd more say I'm still waiting to see if he's worth ten million. If a player is being played out of position and he's useless at it I'll say it, but I won't judge him overall. Like Conner, going into this season I didn't rate Conner, I know he has the talent to be a very good player, but I wasn't buying into him like some were, I needed more than a spree of goals at the end of last season to convince me. This season was to be where I'd make my mind up definitively, but 28 games later I still can't make an assessment. All I've learnt about Connor this season is that he isn't an inside forward, I noticed it after a couple of games. All I've learnt about Rodwell this season is that he's not a box to box midfielder, which I also noticed after a couple of games.

Gus was an idiot playing to his own ideology instead to the players strengths. I won't bash pieces of jigsaw in the wrong places then declare both the pieces and the jigsaw rubbish. Hopefully Dick get's player in their natural positions and playing to their strengths and if then they're useless then I'll review them and damn them.

So I can be DOF then? If I hold the same opinion as a DoF and we see the same thing, where is the specialist knowledge? Surely better with an ex pro with coaching licenses and management experience who may be able to see a bit more

    For what its worth...
Rodwell - excited but tempered with concern about injuries. Also wondered why we were spending so much on CM
Gomez - not a player I knew too much about with the exception of his goal and red card (different games at SoL)
Jones - didn't know him but I asked my boss who is a WBA season ticket holder, who said that he is good going forward, but is very injury prone

I totally get that and respect where your coming from mate, only question for me is was Rodwell worth 10 mil especially as he'd played very little for man city, also taken into account he's been played of position too. Time is on our side with dick at the helm ATM. I miss us creating chances and just being able to score goals, gotta KTF and look forward to the derby!

But the DoF football provides the shortlist, the Coach selects the players he thinks will work for him. Gus Poyet Choose Coates over Alderwireld and rejected Richards for Vergini. Gus also selected Rodwell presumably because he thought his late surging runs displayed the ability to make a good box to box CM. It's Gus' doing not Congerton's. He's there to provide players for the Head coach, not select his squad and playing style for him.

My postings are not to defend Poyet. I'm aware that he made some poor signings - South Americans and Brighton players certainly spring to mind!

The thrust of what I am trying to say is......would an experienced and capable manager not be preferable and better placed to identify his own transfer targets rather than the DoF / head coach system.

Maybe the steps of the dance have changed so much (agents etc) that a DoF is a better solution, but I do have my doubts

Oh I know mate, the bloke in defensible, but I think Gus has made Congerton look bad and willing to give the bloke time to see if he can make it work. I like the idea of a DoF to be honest, it should work providing their isn't a prat in charge.

    Agree.

Rodwell will prove more than worth every penny and more, I have zero doubt. Jones is a good player and we look better when he's fit.

Gomez, yeah fair one, he's pigeon ****.

Lads, how do we know that Gus knocked Alderwireld and Richards back for Vergini and Coates?

I vaguely remember being linked with Richards but never that Gus knocked him back for one of those? I would have shouted for his head then <yikes>

There you go mate. That's my concern that stories like this only come out after he's gone...
