Ok.....so before a ball was kicked this season, every pundit was handing the PL trophy to Man City. They now sit 10 points behind, halfway through the season. They cannot defend for ****, their goalkeeper is hilariously ****e. Dumping Joe Hart and replacing him with that donkey was one of the stupidest managerial moves I have ever seen. I was one of the few who always said Guardiola would never cut it in the Premier League. In La Liga and the Bundesliga, the lower half teams just dont give Barca and Bayern the sort of games that the lower PL teams give our big teams. Our title winners have to work for it. Where as Barca have 4 hard games a season, the El Classicos and Atletico Madrid games. Similar with Bayern, Dortmund give them a game, and thats it. He is being exposed here. This may be premature, as he may win titles in the future. But on this seasons showing, he is terrible. Not really an improvement on Pellegrini, especially after all the money they spent.
1) Nothing wrong with La Liga when he was there, it was simply that he had a bloody good Barca team. The same team Pep beat the very best in England with, in the CL. 2) He's trying to apply his approach with a squad that isn't his. 3) 18 games to judge a manager is undoubtedly premature. Hope he fails miserably though
Premier league is a vastly different beast from La Liga and the Bundasliga. He's only had half a season, so it's early days, but his approach is not really working at the moment. Also completely agree about Bravo, WTF ? How the hell does he rate him higher than Joe Hart ?
Looking for an escape route already, I see? Reckons City may be his last club. Really doesn't like competition does he.
Yeah, weird as ****. He isn't use to things not going his way you see. He cannot understand why a club sat in 12th doesn't just roll over and play the tactics he wants that enables Man City to beat them. "What is this? They defend?!! Outrageous!!" Doesn't like it when things don't go according to his script. The media are just as bad, they had more or less handed City the PL title before a ball was kicked.
He's had it too easy with Barca and Bayern. Not saying he isn't a good coach, but the Prem has put it right up him
Pep, while he is a good manager, cant handle the pressure of a real league with multiple good teams in it.
Well, not yet anyway. I think he'll have more of a grip on it next season. Plus, he won't have the distraction of European football next season.
You think they will finish outside the top 5? Not sure I'd go that far. Usually even 6th will get you a Europey spot, since the FA Cup is usually won by a CL team.
True, they won't finish 7th. I certainly wouldn't assume they'll be top 4 though. If you look at Pep and Jose right now, who looks in complete control and who doesn't?
Aye, Don't think I am too immodest in saying Chelsea are nailed on for a top 4 spot. Liverpool look decent, Arsenal always manage to scrape top 4. Then there is Spurs, who are in contention. And Man United look to be getting their act together and have to be serious contenders for top 4 too now. So I would agree, top 4 is not guaranteed for them. Question: If City fail to make top 4, do you think Pep will get sacked?
I doubt they'd sack him. It would be mad if they did. I wouldn't be surprised if he flounced off though.
Aye, I think he is looking at the possibility that the PL may tarnish his reputation. I mean, when was the last time he went a season without winning a single trophy? Has he ever? EDIT: Just checked and no, he has never gone a season without winning a trophy since he started first team management in 2008-09 season. Except when he took a year off in 2013 of course.
It's taking him time to adapt to the league and he doesn't have a squad capable of playing the way he expects his team to play. Give him time and more of his own signings and I expect he will do well at City. He is a top manager but he has admitted himself that it's a steep learning curve coming into the English game. No chance City will fire him even if he doesn't make top four. Think this thread is definitely premature!
