    Not too many candidates!

Prodl and Amrabat started the season well.

Usual suspects like Deeney and Gomes to contend?

Cleverley and Doucoure have done well in the 2nd half of the season..

Hard to call...... Gomes has been ever-present and both him and TD have been a rallying call to the team.....

Can´t be Amrabat, as for a winger he has no assists or goals. He gives drive and determination but as much end product as a nun at a school prom night.

Has to be Deeney or Gomes with Prodl in 3rd.

Sums a dire season up of grinding out results.

    Possibles:
Holebas has had a good season.
Prodl started great and whilst leveling out is still playing at a high level.
Capoue does a lot more than people see, also he covers more ground than anyone else in our team match after match and this year added goals. Again, when played in position he is far better.

    Definitly not:
Deeney turned up bulked up and could hardly get off the ground for 2 months.
Amrabat was excellent with his energy 1st half of season but has not come back as good. Still no goals or assists.

Finding it tough to pick one and would actually consider Doucoure as he's been a big part of this recent run, and has looked very good - shame he only got his chance because of injuries to so many others. Cleverley similarly has been very good since his arrival.

I think it will be Gomes almost by default though - probably our most consistent performer. Prodl maybe close too.

Deeney certainly hasn't been as good as last season, but seems to be getting back to his best now.

Amrabat I really don't rate too highly and if we stick with the 3 up front, could do better on that side. I like his enthusiasm but really is very little end product to him, and since his injury, really does seem to moan a lot - to the ref, to his own team-mates, and almost Holebas-like in his attitude now.

    Can we nominate Harry?

    My personal top 3 would be;

    Doucoure
    Gomes
    Prodl

It's a strange one, isn't it? We could be on for our highest top-flight finish since...(answers on a postcard please) and we can't really find a player of the season. I remember posting before Christmas that Amrabat or Prodl were on for it. Amrabat definitely gone off the boil since being injured but I think I would still nominate Prodl. If not him then I think we're down to the usual HG and TD suspects. So many injuries it's been impossible for some of the other would-be candidates to get any consistency going.

Weird one eh. At different points of the season, different players have looked like good candidates. I think Gomes hasn't looked as good as he did last season when he won it hands down. Deeney doesn't come close in my book. Prodl, though lately he's been a bit off the boil, and yes, Dacoure is a very good should in recent times. Even Behrami has looked like a possible nominee at times. Tricky one. Janmaat definitely a possible. It's a shame Okaka doesn't get more time, i think he'd be a good name for next season if he gets his opportunity, as would Niang and Cleverley! So...er...no blinking idea in other words!

I did a poll for this on the WFC forum and a lot went for Holebas (2nd behind Prödl) but I wonder if his attitude will put others voting for him..

If it doesn't sell out then maybe it gets downgraded for next year.

We hoped for that last year. Apparently many of the players even failed to turn up last year. The last one I went to at Shendish was excellent, Deeney was the last player there making sure everybody had spent sufficient time with him, great chap. i also spent 15 minutes talking to GT about old times, priceless.

And Flores didn't bother going either.

Only Deeney and Gomes went I think!

Not quite, probably about half the squad was there, but most of them couldn't wait to get away, some left before pud...shameful! It lost it's magic in the new venue, and with players not that bothered it lost it's club feel too..far more 'them and us' than before. A real shame.

I hate to given that paper credit but there was a Sun journalist on MOTD extra pretty much saying how the club had lost its family/community feel although you could say that about a number of clubs!

Not too many (particularly in the top 2 leagues have that image now - or certainly its not as highlighted)

For a lot of footballers its a job and moving from club to club is just part of it so not as united squad wise - probably didn't help there were Internationals and it was a pretty average end of the season.

Of course in the old days you'd have the likes of Graham Taylor telling all the team to turn up looking the part.
