Out of interest if you don't want us signing relatively cheap, young players with something to prove who do you want us to sign?
Initially after the season finished I thought we needed to consolidate and spend a few seasons sorting out the mess. However each new signing has increased the optimism, sure some of the departures like McCarthy and Caulker were questionable but with 6 weeks left in the transfer window we have the opportunity of putting together a decent squad that if they don't get one of the automatic places should certainly be good enough for a Play Off spot.... Up the R's
There are lots of good teams in this league that have been playing together for some time,so I voted mid-table about 15th, don't underestimate the opposition.
I've gone for automatic promotion. Now I'm off to Hartlepool to buy some exploding trousers, wibble!!
I think we'll finish there aswell which is horrific considering the opportunity we've blown. We'll be down here for at least 3 years and its a catastrophic situation to be in. I agree with you that folk thinking we'll make Playoffs etc are living in cloud cuckoo land. What did you think of my Hoilett/S Phillips comparison Sir?
I don't believe I've seen it. It's easier to just ignore your posts that aren't directly in reply to mine
I've a feeling you won't want to ignore this one (three quarters down the page) http://www.not606.com/threads/qpr-reject-makes-mls-switch-after-loftus-road-hell.306704/
SWP has obviously had the better career but for us they've been not much different. Hoilett's whole career is a bit of a sham based on a few MOTD moments at Blackburn and people go easy on him because he put in a crap cross in the playoff final that the defender made a hash of. At Blackburn he scored 12 times in total so any sort of potential he's meant to have had is based around a small number of long range goals. However, I've never seen Hoilett intentionally not do what he can for the side which I think was the case with SWP at Palace last season.
I think it's a bit early to be predicting how we will do. We're unlikely to keep all of Austin, Fer and Phillips and we're still very short of defensive cover. Depending on those two factors, the worst case is that we'll be mid to lower table. If we keep those three and are smart in bolstering our defence (which performed so poorly as a unit last season) we have a good chance of making the play-offs. That's quite a range of possibilities with the season just a week away!
A fair summary. In some ways, it make a change to have some unpredictability. Last season was all too predictable...
Worth bearing in mind who else there is in the division. Hull are fairly unstable too and possibly in a similar boat to us. As it stands I'd say their squad and manager are overall better than ours and the same for Burnley. I really like Ramsey but he's a complete unknown. I don't think anyone could expect us to finish above Boro, Wolves, Derby or Brentford. We're part of a clutch of clubs like Ipswich and Forest who will probably aspire to the playoffs but more realistically not having quite enough for that. I don't honestly think we'll be in relegation trouble while teams like Bolton, Huddersfield, Rotherham, Leeds and Preston are around.
This was last years Championship PFA TOTY: Westwood - Don't think he's much better than Greeno. Francis - Who? Keogh - Great assist for Bobby in the Play Off final. Martin - Onuoha's just as good IMO. Friend - Hardly a Prem player. Leadbitter - Played in the Championship for ages. Pritchard - Good player. Ritchie - Good player. Sako - Very good player, but is he better than Phillips/Fer? Deeney - Good forward who will succeed in the Prem, but not better than Austin Murphy - One season wonder. A couple of defenders and we should be able to go up.
And that what's makes the Championship a more exciting league than the boring Premiership imo. It's a shame that success in the champs leads to promotion to the awfully tedious premier league.
Relegated................well somebody had to!!! Not on performance but on FFP points deduction or something similar.
I'd like to think we will have a good enough squad to finish in the play offs & would love another wembley outing.
