Jerome made the first goal out of nothing unselfishly setting up Naismith when most would have gone for goal themselves, scored the penalty and missed a couple of chances. Meanwhile Oliveira comes on late in the game and scores a decent goal against a tiring team. Of the 5 Norwich highlights in the game Jerome features in 4 of them, more than any other Norwich player. I hate to break it to you but strikers will miss chances it happens all the time whether they play in the PL or Sunday football. Whilst I think Oliveira is a decent striker option at this level I really can't see why some have such faith in him or why some have such a downer on Jerome. Interestingly it looks at the moment like Farke sees Jerome ahead of Oliveira in the pecking order.
One of the "misses" actually beats the keeper and bounces off the post. If we can get £6m plus for Jerome and replace him with another powerful dynamic hard working striker 5 or 6 years younger then I would be happy. I doubt there are many in the German 2nd division as good as him so we would be better hanging on to him.
It's not just about Jerome missing chances, yes any striker is bound to miss chances, it's the type of chances that he misses. One-on-ones or gilt edge chances that are hard to watch. More often than not Oliveira tucks those away. Jerome is a workhorse but in terms of striking talent it's Oliveira every time for me. I'm not really sure how you have judged that Jerome is ahead of the pecking order from pre-season so far, I expect they've both played a similar amount. And just a guess but I think Oliveira has scored more.
At this stage in proceedings, 12 days before the new season, unless there's a latter-day Gayle or an Assombalonga waiting in the wings for a chunk of the Murphy money, I think we should stick with the two we have with Watkins, Josh or whoever as emergency back up. I'd imagine that's exactly what will happen. Damn and blast all these ridiculous scare-mongering websites like HTIC etc - if only the window shut on Aug 4th instead of September 1st.
7th best rated striker last season and he had by his standards a poor season. All the Jerome haters should shut the Farke up.
That's what I HATE about stats - it all depends how you view them!!! CJ scored at the rate of just under 1 goal in every other game, whereas Basil at the rate of just under 3 goals in every 4 games!!! Percentage wise of games played - CJ comes out at 51% and Basil at 69%. Gayle at Newcastle comes out at a whopping 88%!!
Not sure how 16 goals from 64 shots comes to 51%, they must have changed per centages since I went to school, I make 16 from 64 to be exactly 25 %
Read it again Dave - it's goals scored divided by games played. Yes DD - we should have signed Gayle!!!
