El Mundo Today are reporting that Sergio Ramos tried to dodge paying tax, but somehow managed to pay tax twice: http://www.elmundotoday.com/2017/06...uestos-pero-acabo-pagando-el-doble-por-error/

...it's probably worth pointing out that El Mundo Today is a satirical sports paper, but realistically the only difference between them and The Sun is that El Mundo Today actually puts thought into the stories it makes up.

I just found out there was a Beckham Law. It gives me hope for humanity that a national government was moved to legally redress the suffering of celebrity multimillionaire footballers rather than fritter away their time and money providing clean water to the world's poor.

The tax break was ostensibly used to attract overseas "talent" from all
industry sectors into the Spanish economy. But who could have foreseen
that footballers would have been a massive undeserving by-product ...

Frank De Boer is set to be appointed as the Palace manager.

Probably sees that as a stepping stone and is an intriguing move. I recall a fair few Spurs fans were calling for FDB when AVB got the boot.

Could turn out to be an inspired appointment, but I can also see it going disastrously wrong. He had a torrid time at Inter and was successful at Ajax in a piss-poor league. Will he cope in the PL?

He really needs to do well with this move. His reputation's taken quite a big hit.
Ajax to Allardyce? How much of a change will he have to make to their system and will he have the players to do it?

It wouldn't surprise me if the Tories made an offer to Allarshyte at this rate...

Los Ladrones' statement regarding Jose Moronho in full

Following the publication in today's AS newspaper of information concerning the signing of José Mourinho as the manager of our club, Real Madrid C.F. wishes to emphasise that said information is entirely false.

Real Madrid and José Mourinho did not sign any contract on the 31st of March 2010 for him to take over the role of coach, as is wrongly asserted by the aforementioned newspaper. This contract was signed by both parties precisely two months after the alleged date, on the 31st of May 2010.

Therefore, any statements or value judgements made by the cited publication in regard to this false information lack any basis and have no other objective than to damage the image of Real Madrid and its president, just as is becoming the norm for this particular media outlet.

...in other words, a heap of Trumpian bullshit.

How does signing a contract two months later than alleged
exonerate get Real Madrid or Jose on matters tax dodging ??

It's a blatant obfuscation tactic on their part, by trying to say that because one detail is not correct the whole thing isn't correct.

There's onne slight problem with that position, though: if it turns out that, rather than a lack of fact checking/proof reading on AS's part, Los Ladrones were tapping-up Inter's manager during the season, the follow-up statement won't be anywhere near as arsey...

....while Liverpool reject an £11m bid from Napoli for Moreno. Think they would be lucky to get £11 never mind £11m!

A spot of bother at River Plate: at first it was just Lucas Martínez Quarta who failed an anti-doping test when he tested positive for the diuretic drug hydrochlorothiazide.

Then it soon came to light that Camilo Mayada and (rumoured Spurs target) Sebastian Driussi had also tested positive for the drug.

Now it's strongly suggested that Jonathan Maidana, Leonardo Ponzio, Ignacio Fernandez and (also a rumoured Spurs target) Lucas Alario have also failed tests and the announcment is to be made shortly.

Sounds like a bit of a cockup by the club's medical team, that...

Arsenal and Chelsea have agreed to donate the proceeds from the Community Shield to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40381233

It's nice to see the game being used to do some good.
I'm sure that we can all appreciate this gesture from the clubs. <applause>

I thought it was called the Community Shield because the proceeds were already donated to the community?

Some of it's put into a fund, which the FA Cup participants then dish out, IIRC.

Southampton have appointed Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager. He's currently house hunting on Merseyside.
