Mostly sub under Poch (he was only 18 then, first start aged 19 when Ron had no other choice), but I remember some quotes around that time where he said Reed was an exciting player with a big future.
That's what I thought. He never really backed him though, so for me, I agree with Laces' original comment that three managers haven't picked him for a reason that none of us mere fans see... As I said, I like him. I liked his game against City under Poch and his performance against Everton but for some reason he doesn't get selected by people better qualified than us fans.
looks like Big Sam is settling in well at Blackburn, forced 5 saves hit the crossbar and a goal, won man of the match. will he coming back next season or is that his level?
Bit early to judge his level seeing as he is still developing. At the same age I think Rickie Lambert's level was a pumpkin picker or whatever it was. Beetroot factory worker?
Yeah, thought we had stitched him up again by sending him there, even if he doesn't come back to us glad he is doing well..
Which sort of justifies someone saying about Sam's level. Rickie wasn't at the level of a Premier league footballer at that age. He was a league 2 or 1 player. He worked his way up and I agree with Benditlikeabanana that Sam may be at his current level. He isn't Premier League level in my opinion, but no reason why he can't work his way up to it.
^^^^^ This exactly with both Reed & Gallagher. Ward-Prowse & Targett too for that matter. They're all still pretty young and a few years yet from their peak. Throw in that we tend to pick up the players who are technically talented, but haven't necessarily bulked up compared to the rest of their age group who go to the big clubs and their peak may be at 25-28 rather than 23-26 for some other players. Plenty of time yet.
I can accept that our managers have doubts about Reed. But if that's the case, we definitely should be seeking a loan destination for him; he's now in to his fourth season of playing primarily at the U-21/U-23 level, and he has aged out of the England setup.
If we had gone up 2-0 or more in the first half like we should have, we could have played Reed and other youths. That is the hidden cost of our poor finishing.
Reed, Hesketh and Stephens all omitted from the team playing LCFC in PL2 this evening. Are thry to be in the squad v Palace?
I don't think they are injured. Valery missing too, but he could be out with an injury because i'm fairly sure he missed the last game. 1-1 at ht.
