Really feel for Pied....no chance to prove himself one way or the other. Looked ok on the one game I saw. Footballers are notorious for not really liking training...changes and games have to be introduced to keep their little brains interested....how much harder just to slog away on your own. Pied keeps posting these vids to keep himself in mind. Deserves some luck.
Pied's attitude has definitely impressed me, big injury at a new club and it would be easy to keep a low profile and just wait out the recovery. But he seems to really have attacked his rehab and stayed engaged. I like him as a player too so look forward to seeing him back.
He could have been sat on the bench at Wembley just in case it went to penalties.... then hung up his boots after his 8th season at Saints, with a Cup winners medal Happy Birthday Rickie.
Yep I can see the interview now: "So Rickie, you managed to earn £80k/week rather than £40k/week for 1 ½ seasons with Liverpool and left the team that still love you ...was it worth it?" "eeeh (Emlyn Hughes style) not really"
When in reality, when a sugared version of that question was thrown at him he said, " Eeeeh [Emlyn Hughes style], well I couldn't really turn them down, could I". Well, in hindsight, seeing as they ****ed your career the first time [and did it for a second time as well], maybe you should have, Rickie. To be honest, Rickie would have been gone from Saints within another season or so, but at least he'd have played and scored, and added to his legendary status. He might even have extended his very good England career for a while.
Rickie himself said he didn't regret going to Liverpool. Cortese had tried to sell him before, so he probably thought his card was marked anyway and he got a year at his childhood club. Saints brought the best out of him and had his best years.
You lot need to stop wrecking my little dream... I'm sticking with believing my version could have happened!
Agreed. Have to remember he still scored a few goals including one in the CL. In my experience it's the things you don't do in life that you regret rather than what you do. It may not have gone as he hoped but he'd feel more 'what ifs' had he never tried.
I think in the break the players had following the Sunderland game he went back to his home town and opened a gym.
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/769759/Barcelona-Transfer-News-Cedric-Soares-Southampton Rumour that Barcelona are after Cedric. I think Barcelona are just a fall back name for every rumour....if they bought all the players they are linked to they'd have four squads.
