He's a player I would never want to see lining up against us. Pleased his family like him playing for us, and it is wholly reciprocated. Seems a lovely bloke, and delighted he wants to continue with Saints. As good as a new signing

If he is basically getting a chunk of the money we had ear-marked for Mane, I'm okay with it.

Optimally, we should be letting players like Davis and Long run out their contracts and giving extensions to the likes of Wanyama or Mane. But since we are still having problems holding on to players in that age group, I guess this is the next best thing.

Shane Long has never been as good a player as he was last season. This coming season will be his finest, all time career high, and he'll score at least 20 goals :)

Would that be the Virgil Van Dijk age group?

Excellent news. Pace, good in the air, never gives defenders a rest. Took a season and a half for Mr Koeman to realise his best centre forward was been used as a part time winger.

This is great news for the club and the fans. I have to say, I'm loving the new strategy that the board have seemingly adopted. In a window of huge transfer fees already we have made securing the futures of keys players the priority which is perhaps something we should have done a few seasons ago. I have a feeling that the team spirit is as good as ever and can't wait to see how that is expressed on the pitch. Now if a player is sold by the club it will be for a premium rate and we won't have a situation like we did with Clyne and Wanyama and we lose them for about £12m each. The signing of Højbjerg on a 5-year contract could turn out to be a masterstroke also! What a time to be alive.

The club started giving longer contracts to new signings last season and are now stabilising the team with longer contracts for the backbone of the team. Another change is that players are willing to sign here for longer. We are entering a new era of confidence in the future from the board and the players. Now we just need to get the right manager and keep him...let's hope that is Puel. He looks to be right for us...but have to wait to see this confirmed on the pitch. Feeling good about our future.

PPS I originally added JWP to that but left him off as he's not that age. Clearly re-signing 24-25 year olds on new contracts is a problem. Meltdown
