Shane Long signs new four-year deal

Doesn't make either of us positive or negative.

We had one player sign up to a new contract in that age, actually count JWP although don't think he will ever leave.

The club are basically set up to foster talent and sell for top dollar (or Euros for that matter) which is fine as that is our model.

I'm not negative about it Fats, just see it as the club doing the best for our club. And rather business like protecting its assets which I know makes me less of a fan than others on here

 

Why would that be a problem?

No one is saying it is, and the age bracket isn't so much the elephant in the room, it is about maximising value of assets, and contract periods heavily influence that and which point the asset is sold.

Let's. Face it, if our players were crap and weren't in demand we would have an even worse problem!

 

Im not saying you're being negative, but ISIRTP making out we have a problem re-signing players at a certain age is a bit odd.

Me pointing out that we've just done that with one player already at that age and then you undermining it (albeit you were probably taking the piss) doesn't exactly have the air of positivity about it

 

Oh jeez!! . Someone did mention the age group. I mentioned a player in that age group.. I took the piss as I think it a ridiculous thought. That's all.

He has a bit of a point, but I was just saying it wasn't really the norm, although perhaps we are trying to change our model. Who knows hey!

Great news....that will upset some of the media who were desperately trying to sell him to of their favourite Big Boys

 

I like SL and am proud of our club that we are getting the best out of him when others couldn't.

id like to think he will improve his goals with more playing time and more of a central striker role.

I'm also aware of the other work he does for us by harassing the opposition and leaving space for our other players, I actually think JWP could be one to link up by moving into the space he created and getting more opportunities to score. Big season for that young man, if he cracks it he could be sold off before he reaches 24

 

Not a gambler, but I would bet JWP becomes a one club man.

 

I would definitely bet someone else's house on that...

 

Good news and definitely the reason we were happy to let Pelle go and not be too bothered about a replacement.

Think Shane will be first choice and I believe with the confidence from last season and being first choice, he has the ability to be a 20 goal striker

 

Whilst being delighted if he did I would equally be amazed.

If we are relying on Shane to provide 20 goals we may be in a slight divet

 

I understand that the club have had Shane fitted with a brand new bit of elastic....he will be practically invisible when moving this season, though the groundsmen are concerned about scorch marks on the pitch.

 

I thought he already was!

 

This close season is starting to have a good feel about it? One or two more signings and were all set.

Well done Shane Long........ A good bit of business for the club. One Swallow or half a dozen still a good summer for Saints. All we need to even improve our summer is another couple of decent players. The icing on the cake would be a couple more extending their contracts too. So does one swallow a summer make? Yes ..........always.
