Surely the point of starting with Gladwin was to continue with the 4-3-3 formation which had been successful on Tuesday?
I think he could have got to it. Had he made an effort then judging by the last minute Fulham one we conceded it should have been a pen to us for high foot!
Would Richard Dunne have tried to head it? Absolutely. Caulker lacks bravery IMO. He is not a commanding centre back and for that reason will never be a top player.
Dunne was at the more extreme end of the bravery spectrum. Any centre-half with an ounce of pride for the position would have gone for it. Pathetic.
Thanks Nines! Clive calls it a 4 1 4 1. Do posters at the game agree with that? Others on here (don't know if they were there to not) called it 4 3 3, and someone a 4 2 3 1.
I wasn't there on Saturday, but I assume the formation was the same as last Tuesday which was something like this: -----------Smithies----------------- Perch Onuoha Caulker Lynch -----------Borysiuk----------------- ------Cousins-----Luongo------- Chery---------------Washington --------------Sylla------------------ I would have called that 4-3-3, but I suppose you could say it was 4-1-4-1. Edit: **** it, the spacing didn't work. The point is that there were three centre-mids with Cousins and Luongo a little further forward than Borysiuk. Chery and Washington played wide.
Thanks Stroller. Follow that. I guess Sylla was a bit further forward normally than Chery and Washington too.
I don't see why not. Chery poses a problem in that he is our most gifted player, but is best suited to a number 10 role and has to be crowbarred into different formations sometimes. Having said that, he linked well with Perch on Tuesday, with the full-back overlapping to get in some good crosses. I would probably have started with Wszolek instead of Chery on Saturday. I like Washington in the wide left position though.
I'm getting a bit frustrated with Chery. He hasn't played well for quite a few games now and I don't think he's good enough to build a side around as JFH proposed on the QPR podcast. If we had an American Football styled system where you could bring on a specialist kicker for penalties and free kicks he would be ideal. Not corners though as he's not very good at them. Against Bristol City he put two of them out of play behind the goal line and on four other occasions he couldn't beat the first man. I'd bench him for a bit.
