Been following Newcastle Diamonds Speedway for over 50 years now through thick and thin. Excellent side this year and chance of trophy. Remember the World Champions we had, Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, in the late 60's, 70's
Nikki Pederson started out in uk with the Diamonds too. My favourites as a young in tho were big Tom Owen and rocket Rod Hunter
The very first riders I can recall seeing were Don Wilkinson and Gil Goldfinch. Also remember Brian Craven, brother of the great Peter Craven.
He comes across as a reet petulant **** doesn't he. He seems to get quite a lot of 'breaks' from the team whereas Lewis often has a few 'issues' with his car.
Indeed. I'd never claim that the, German, Mercedes-Benz F1 Team, were somehow siding with their German Driver. Obviously because Lewis Hamilton is a three-time World Champion, a media champion and, clearly, the more talented driver of the two. Siding? No, "..it's racing"
go Daniel in the F1, ffs Joker I would call Hamilton a prat and we will never see who is the most talented due to the obvious monetary clout between the teams. I tip Rosberg to win but as with most of my tips I will be wrong. I wish F1 would all use the same engines then we would see who is the best and most talented. Or get the so called legends out to Bathurst and watch them try and drive V8's, would love to see that as several have come and failed. Not having a clue how the cars work withy the computer stuff I sometimes wonder if all the drivers do is steer the car.
I am sure that all the FI drivers would be more than capable of driving a V8, I doubt that all of the V8 drivers would have the ability mentally and physically to drive an F1 car at full tilt though.
Is Bathurst still the death trap it used to be? There's been some really nasty accidents there over the years. Part of the sport I know, but Bathurst seems to have had more than it's fair share of fatalities and serious injuries down the years from what I remember.
I am sure they are capable however how fast I have no idea, they will have to do things like use a clutch, be prepared for close racing were 25 cars are vying for the lead not 4 or 5. Would be interesting to see them out here (well the top 10 against the top 10 V8 drivers here) in a race at Bathurst over 200 km
2 drivers have died during the race (1 x accident and 1 x heart attack), 1 in practice (mech failure) and 1 other in a support race, that is since 1960
It's naive to think F1 drivers can't drive. They learn from go karts upwards and are massively skilful drivers. But it's single seaters and a totally different form of racing. F1 is also a worldwide championship rather than a national one and it's widely recognised as the pinnacle of motor sport with the very best single-seater drivers from the entire globe. If you want to make a comparison, then try European touring car drivers on the Aussie V8 circuits and vice versa. At least you would be comparing apples with apples.
