There's no real detail there. May well be true.

Is my memory playing tricks or is this about the fifth five year plan we've had in the last five years?

Yeah the article doesn't really say anything that most of us wouldn't know/assume would be happening. I think we started a new 5 year plan when Ronald took over, so maybe that has been scrapped for a more progressive version? Who knows!

Hope he pens a new contract, but if he walks away in 12 mths time then he leaves with good wishes from me. Really enjoy having him at our club.

Just as losing Pochettino acted as a catalyst for many departures. Getting Ron to sign an extension could act as a catalyst for keeping players.

So far no player who has had serious attention from bigger clubs has signed a new contract. At best we've held players to their contracts(seemingly under duress)
As great as the last two seasons have been, you can't expect or gain success by losing two/three of your best players every year and keeping players has to be the biggest priority in any new blueprint

    Jay Rodriguez.

But beyond that, I take your point. Jay said at the time that his contract renewal was born out of appreciation and the faith shown in his recovery.

To be fair, we don't yet know who that new contract benefits.

Yep...it's without question coming from the club. Particularly liked:

Going to guess that Wilson's keen insight into the feelings of the directors is pretty much verbatim quoting from one of the directors, heh.

If it appears on the same day in two papers, including the Telegraph, I will assume it has been officially 'leaked' as a positive club message. Doesn't say much though as I would assume that Saints have a rolling 5 year plan and the manager would be present at some meetings where it would be discussed. In this case, the release of the message is the message.

We all know Koeman will stay next season as he has said so and, unlike an unnamed rat, I tend to believe him. In an interview when a suggestion that he might leave was raised, he actually looked hurt and said to the interviewer, 'You know I'm happy here.' I have a reasonable hope that he might extend his contract....though bearing in mind there may be factors unknown at the moment.

When he first came to SFC and began to make real progress, and all the stuff started about him leaving at the first opportunity, I was really concerned, after the fiasco with Pinocchio. But from very early on he said that if he wasn't sacked he saw out his contracts. He has reiterated that time and again and still the media say that he'd jump at the first decent opportunity. Well I didn't just believe him. I looked back at his previous jobs and he was either sacked or he left after the contract ended, just as he said. That's great, but that's also the trouble. Will he want a new challenge elsewhere at the end of next season ? Personally, I think it's not just about him. He won't want to carry on at Saints unless brother Erwin carries on with him, and he may have other ambitions. However, if they think Saints are serious about making progress then I think they'll sign. They won't care too much about personal gain but more about what they can be allowed to achieve. It's a unique situation for them. They're very happy at SFC; they're at Saints for the right reasons; they're working together just as their father hoped; they're making progress. The dice are heavily loaded.
