Yes, I watched this last night. Made I chuckle. Tbf, they all look pretty good. Virgil's photo has caught him with a winning smile. Note that Harry Reed is face on. Perhaps his profile is a bit questionable. Or perhaps it's just that he is at the end?
McQueen did not dive. He was sprinting at full pace, and therefore even the slightest knock is gonna send him flying. The defender clips him, which then makes McQueen trip himself. Halfway through his fall his head seems to duck, which is what makes it look like simulation, but there's no way that was an intentional dive.
I like the fact that Boufal walked past...then had a quick look to see no one was watching and went back for the photo.
And once decided, he didn't hesitate for a moment even when someone appeared at the door. There's footballer vanity for you. Or perhaps it was just an appreciation of our very capable club photographer's skills that he so eagerly wanted to show off.
Is anyone else feeling some serious man-love towards Austin? It's nice to have a team of players that I can really get behind again. Feels like a lot of the players we have now are less mercenary than before. Oriol, Chazza, Vvd, Fonte, Davo... It's amazing what a few wins can do, the season is looking so positive!
Jamie Redknapp said in an incredulous voice on Sunday, 'And he cost 4 million.'* *Also known as one Charlie Austin.
There's none so blind as those who will not see. Apparently there are some who can't believe a Saints player would dive even though he obviously did. It doesn't hurt to take off the red and white specs sometimes.
The penalty shouts: The one they didn't get: Didn't look at all like a foul seen at full speed; just a clash. In slow motion it looked very deliberate indeed. The one we got: Looked very much like a trip at full speed. In slow motion it looked like a feather touch then a horrible dive. The one they got: Risible. Given because it was the first opportunity the ref had to rectify the first one. Vin
I see that Pied posted this on Sunday. He seems a nice guy and I feel for him missing his chance. Yes, I know that he's sitting on his butt on top money and not down a coal mine, but he scarcely had a chance and may be let go after this season. Wish him the best.
Eh? This is just one incident we are discussing. If it was a series of incidents in which I/we were defending Saints players then fine, resort to the 'red and white specs' jibe. But you will not find at any time me taking the side of Saints when it is undeserved. I felt Burnley were robbed of a penalty, happy to admit that. And regarding Saints generally, I am often critical. I've said how I hate this season's home kit for example, and I made my feelings clear about the Mane sale more than once over the summer. The McQueen penalty is not clear-cut in any respect. Neither as a penalty, nor as a dive. Just accept that people have judged it differently before deciding to patronise others.
In some parallel universe he tries to stay on his feet and slices his shot wide whilst off balance. Someone writes on a forum. "Showed his inexperience there, should have gone down and won the penalty."
The problem in the end was he got caught in between. Showed his inexperience by forgetting to go down until it was almost too late!
He may not have gone down at all, but the second contact clipped his ankles together, that is why the momentum took him down and made it look a bit spectacular, the first contact upset his balance and was a foul in it's own respect.
