There appears to be a deathly hush on the board following the Oldham game, so I'll use this thread to pass a few comments. As far as the purpose of the thread is concerned : 1 Bradley Dack for never giving up and working hard (one of the few). Should have had 1 penalty, but was correctly booked for 'falling over' in the penalty area later. 2 Chris Herd for a superb defensive performance, particularly in the first 25-30 minutes while everyone tried to work out exactly what they should be doing. 3 (joint) Cody Macdonald and Rory Donnelly for actually providing some life to the front line for the last half hour or so. That last comment is not disparaging of Elliot List who worked very hard and stayed out wide and waited for chances to open up the wing when it might have been easier to ball chasing inside, which would not have been so constructive. JET's performance is somewhat of a mystery because I don't know what instructions he was given. However playing either as a lone striker, or in combination with Bradley Dack, in view of his height and strength my view is that his area of play should broadly be between the lines of the edge of the penalty area, and making a nuisance of himself in the 6 yard box whenever possible. His actual area of play seemed mostly to be the full width of the pitch between the two penalty areas, with very little effort to create space or move into it at anything other than a stroll. The one time he broke into the Oldham half with the ball he carried it far too far before passing to Dack, and then made no effort to get into the penalty area to receive a cross, which meant that Dack had to hold the ball up and the impetus of the attack was lost. A seriously unimpressive performance. The goal was a superbly taken kick - there are times when you just have to give credit to the taker. No-one was to blame after the kick was awarded. However if Koncheski had a turning circle that was less than that of a loaded supertanker he wouldn't have had to have given the free kick away. Broadly, Ady's comments have got it pretty spot on. The first half hour was a shambles, but we did create a few chances later on. The defence mostly held together pretty well, Wright didn't have a bad game without the captain's armband, Wagstaff was better going forward than in defence, and nobody other than JET could really come in for massive criticism. It's just that everyone else needs to do better.
