We got a big offer from Manchester United, we fought, I was saying we were not selling but, ultimately, the sale helped us do the right things after that and we needed it. ‘While you are rebuilding, if you bring players in and they do really well, some of the big clubs want them - that’s different. ‘The difference is that Jordan is one of our own home-grown players and we certainly wouldn’t be in a hurry to do it. please log in to view this image +4 Moyes had a similar situation with Wayne Rooney at Everton - Rooney was eventually sold If the football's on, it's on please log in to view this image LIVE TABLES FIXTURES SCORES Premier League Championship League One League Two Scottish Premiership Scottish Div 1 Scottish Div 2 Scottish Div 3 Ligue 1 Serie A La Liga Bundesliga More tables ‘But if he keeps performing at the level he is, I’m sure he’s going to draw attention from big clubs. ‘I don't want it to sound as if we want to sell Jordan. Far from it. It's the complete opposite. I want to build a team and I want to build a young, new team. ‘But there will be building blocks that have to be taken out to put other ones on as we go along.’ Moyes had some advice for Pickford, who played over 100 times on loan before making his Sunderland debut. He said: ‘The best thing for Jordan is playing. You think what the games have done for him. ‘You can get lots of coaching but part of it has got to be self-development. So when you get that opportunity, can you take it? ‘He has developed himself within six to 10 games as a Premier League goalkeeper. That has quickly become an England international goalkeeper as well.’ Meanwhile, Sunderland academy director Ged McNamee is leaving the club after 20 years as part of the ongoing restructuring being undertaken by new chief executive Martin Bain.
Just seen this, gutted but I spose that's life.. Jordon is way to good for us, but I'd love to get a couple of seasons out of him but if there gonna through silly money at us we will have to take it..
So basically, Short running us into the ground means we may have to sell our own homegrown players midway through development just to clear up his mess. This Sunderland doesn't work for me. Selling off our future well before it's ripened is disgraceful. Develop them then sell them, get optimum price. January's 20m is next season's 30m. Shows what a piss poor balance sheet we must have.
I know it's true but shouldn't he be saying that Pickford isn't for sale at any price so that if someone does make a bid they'll expect it to have to be silly money to be accepted? This is basically saying that if anyone wants him come get him.
Standard reply to a loaded question - if someone asks we have to tell him and it is his choice. In a professional sense he is still a novice, and for all he has talent he is still learning his trade. He should be staying with us for the next five years at least, then who knows what club will come for him?
Aye probably. I'd be very sad to see Jordan leave for any amount of money but if it's a huge figure at least there's a chance it could help secure the future of the side.
The sad thing is we will probably get a couple of has been make weights in the deal , if John Stones is worth £50 million, what price Jordan ?
The only thing that surprises me is that some seem to be surprised. In reality there isn't a player on the planet who wouldn't be sold 'for the right money'. For example, offer Barca £400 mil for Messi and they would sell. The reasonable question though might be, should Jordan go? He might for example look at Simon Mignolet, currently warming the bench at Liverpool. At SAFC he is Number one choice. He is a shoe in and will no doubt get better as he gets more experience. Last week against Hull he made a some mistakes. Most of the fans were happy to let them pass on the grounds that he is on of us and still learning. If he was tempted to go to, say, Man City that wouldn't be the case. Even if he started as first choice, a bad game or two could have him well down the pecking order. The time for him to decide to move on will be when HE is satisfied that he has nothing else to learn from SAFC. It will happen eventually, but it shouldn't be for a while yet. If Jordan has any doubts about this I would suggest that he considers the careers of Jordan Henderson who left at, more or less, the right time and Ben Alnwick who didn't!!!!
Disagree, I think it's because what good he does outweighs the bad by a million miles and people understand that a 22 year old goalkeeper needs time to refine his game. I mean, his mistakes last week are barely worth the mention. I'm surprised it's been thrown in his face.
