    Same as today.

    If all is going well....

Giacch on for Gomez with 20 left

Ricky on for AJ with 20-25 left

Stick Mannone in goal and give Giacch a runout if fit, would not make wholesale changes though.

    Seems like it.

JERMAIN Defoe is likely to get a breather for Tuesday’s FA Cup fourth round replay at Fulham, despite opening his Sunderland account.

“I knew he was going to score,” said Poyet.

“On another day, he could have had another one.

“Scoring the winning goal as a striker is perfect.

“I think now we need to be careful.

“He hasn’t played for a while.

“It’s very good to have Steven Fletcher and Danny Graham with the attitude of coming on and giving you something different.

“That’s something that will give us points.”

Think we should start with same team as Burnley then take defo off after an hour.
Can't believe he needs a rest myself, he was training with spuds so must be fit.
Today's players are wrapped in cotton wool far too much.

My opinion now is that Gus doesn't rate Giacch or Ricky. Thought one of them would have got the nod ahead of Gomez but no.
To be fair to Gomez he looked half decent yesterday but I still think one of the other two has the skill or the muscle to help our forwards more.
Maybe if there are changes they might get a chance.

Its a bit of a puzzle to me this one, there seems no point in having them on the bench every week but not involving them at all, just hope we see at least one of them against Fulham at some stage of the game.

It's weird isn't it, especially with Giacc, a full Italy international and he can't get a game for sunderland?

I agree with all of that except the "Giaccherini on for Gomez" bit. I'd make that change with 90 left personally!!

Think saying Gomez out Giaccherini or Gomez in is easy for us fans. Gomez plays as a deep lying central midfielder whereas both Giaccherini and Alvarez won't play that role as they are attacking players. They'd be better deployed in AJ role but AJ is playing well at the moment. Not sure how they'd fit in honestly. Would you swap Giaccherini for Larsson as that is the role I see Gomezplaying on the other side of the pitch personally

I think the reason he plays Gomez is he can get up and down the pitch and defend. He doesn't do it very well, but he does do it. Alvarez could never play that role, hence he is only ever seeming switched for AJ.
Giacc doesn't really do the defending bit either. He's great at counter-attacking...which is why Gomez gets the nod for games like yesterday.

I think we'll be set up to counter on Tuesday night, so Giacc should get the nod ....hopefully.

Fair comment MBC but playing against Fulham and Burnley, no disrespect intended to either team, at home I think we could have been a lot more attack minded. I honestly believe AJ and Giachh both could have played in the cup game interchanging from wing to Central area.
Yesterday Gomez looked OK and to be fair Gus's tactics worked but imo he is a squad player at best not a first eleven player. I appreciate we need points on the board I just want to see a less defensive style football and entertained more.

Wrap Defoe up in cotton wool until the next league game, and between every game after that till safety us assured.

just watched the highlights and Gomez is so slow getting up the pitch... he plays a few good balls in, but lacks urgency. hopefully Giacc gets a run out.
