The Chron seem to be reporting we'll lose around 5 million on him. Not the end of the world like. I was puzzled by his signing in the first place, replacing a lightweight French midfielder with a lightweight French midfielder. Would have preferred we'd kept Cabella.

Good riddance, far to light weight, if he'd put the effort in he could have progressed himself more than he did.

'Far too lightweight' is a lazy response, he never got a chance.

Very strange that he was sent back to France after only 6 months or so. That with the fact that he didn't want to come in the first place suggests he didn't settle or make much of an effort to do so.

Not just physically though, he just gave up, didn't want to make the effort and flew home at the first opportunity.

Can say he wasn't given a chance but I'd say he didn't take his chance. Someone like Mbemba - our best CB last year - isn't being given a chance due to a bad game or two and still wants to fight for his place...

Finally, some Good News, that will prove to be 100% true.

Plenty of footballers can he termed lightweight, but this bugger took the biscuit. Lacked any sort of heart or commitment.

At the end of last season our defence looked Premiership worthy:

4 conceded in 6 games including Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham. We still have all of those defenders and I find it odd that Rafa in the main doesn't play them.

Granted he does know a bit more about football than I do.

Defence at end of last season was more or less, Mbemba, Lascalles, Dummett and Anita.

Mbemba tends to be the only one ignored for the best part. Are you sure it's not wishful thinking that Rafa doesn't play the rest.

Mbemba will be fantastic next season after a well earned year-long break.

That's a very selective set of statistics when my sentence relates to an entire season

**** him. He never wanted to be here. He made it perfectly clear and we still threw money at him so he would relent. A useful lesson.

True but I disregard most of what happened under McLaren so I'm evaluating after Benitez came in and had a few weeks to sort it out.

I'm not really saying it is reflective of how they would do next year as it clearly isn't but I take exception at people saying that they're all way off the required standard. We need to strengthen IF we got up, I'm not convinced we need a whole new team.

Thauvin being 'lightweight' is really no excuse, unless you're referring to that in a mental sense.

Players have succeeded in this league who weigh less than him physically, many players in fact.

He's just obviously a fair weather player.
