Look at it this way then fella. They've only beat us once in their last 9 attempts. This from a team that improves year on year and progressed above us a long time ago. Who knows what will happen on the day but stats aren't a guide of what's going to happen as there's stats which are encouraging and stats that are worrying.
Curiouser & curiouser ...... make that, 'The bottom 7 and their remaining games'. If Newcastle lose at Leicester they'll absolutely mess their pants, I can't see any way the 'Geordie Clapper' can motivate that team. Colback looks lost, the goal difference is poor ....... they're trying to do a 'reverse miracle' and fight their way to the bottom. Swansea were poor yesterday yet still managed an easy win. A Sunderland win and we'd be 2 points behind with a game in hand, yes it's Arsenal but 3 points are up for grabs whatever the case. Newcastle - 35 POINTS Leicester (Away) - May 2 West Brom (Home) - May 9 QPR (Away) - May 16 West Ham (Home) - May 24 ASTON VILLA - 32 POINTS Everton (Home) - May 2 West Ham (Home) - May 9 Southampton (Away) - May 16 Burnley (Home) - May 24 HULL - 31 POINTS Arsenal (Home) - May 2 Burnley (Home) - May 9 Tottenham (Away) - May 16 Man United (Home) - May 24 LEICESTER - 31 POINTS Chelsea (Home) - April 29 Newcastle (Home) - May 2 Southampton (Home) - May 9 Sunderland (Away) - May 16 QPR (Home) - May 24 SUNDERLAND - 30 POINTS Southampton (Home) - May 2 Everton (Away) - May 9 Leicester (Home) - May 16 Arsenal (Away) - May 20 Chelsea (Away) - May 24 QPR - 27 POINTS West Ham (Home) - April 25 Liverpool (Away) - May 2 Man City (Away) - May 9 Newcastle (Home) - May 16 Leicester (Away) - May 24 BURNLEY - 26 POINTS Leicester (Home) - April 25 West Ham (Away) - May 2 Hull (Away) - May 9 Stoke (Home) - May 16 Aston Villa (Away) - May 24 Newcastle 34 -21 35 Aston Villa 34 -22 32 Hull 33 -14 31 Leicester 33 -16 31 Sunderland 33 -23 30 QPR 34 -21 27 Burnley 34 -26 26
You can keep your game in hand smug, i'd take our run in over yours any day of the week. It's form that really counts and in that regard we are in trouble, 2 or 3 teams we're playing there are in poor form themselves and we probably only need a point. Yes if you win your "game in hand" (Arsenal away...) and another game, perhaps pick up another point or so you will finish above us but then you'll have go enough points to avoid relegation anyhow, which is the main aim Can I see 3 of the teams below us finishing above us? Yes. Can I see more than that? Not likely, possible but not likely.
Over half of the goals we've conceded have come in matches where we've conceded 3 or more goals. We've only lost 13 games (Hull 16, Leic & Villa 18, burn 18, QPR 21). Our thrashings are red herring, don't concede many and we're very tough to beat. If Southampton are over confident, and there's a good chance they will be, it could be their down fall. I also take heart from the 2nd half performance yesterday. 80% passing , 11 shots, 20 crosses and 9 take on's shows way more attacking intent than we're used too. It may not have been quality but the intent we've been screaming out for is slowly beginning to show. The thrashings are a smoke screen to our real problem which we can use in our favor. Fact is our problem this season is turning draws into wins through a lack of attacking intent, we're seeing that being addressed so there are points there for the taking. Hope that helps fella. It's all I've got
That's a good start Funky As has been said earlier mate, there are more twists and turns in the next few weeks. And yes, the second half gave grounds for hope. Nothing's guaranteed just yet.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting Sunderland are in a better position, simply that Newcastle have forced themselves into the relegation fight against all odds. It would take a 'miracle', of the same magnitude as ours last season, for Newcastle to go down ....... ....... although I seem to recall Norwich managing summat similar recently.
Oh if anyone can pull that out of the bag its us. I don't think any sane Newcastle fan will disagree that we are the worst team in the league at the moment and if we fail to get any points from our last four games then 11 loses on the bounce deserves relegation. I still think we've got a handful of good premiership players and a handful of championship standard ones but Carver is just pointless. If he had any character to him he would have stepped back or walked by now. Cannot believe how many in the press seem to side with him.
With man utd getting beat I hope it gives liverpool a lift for Tuesday game at hull. Win that and the gap is 4 points.
If it doesn't give them a lift it defo gives us more reason to beat Hull last game of the season anyway. Don't go relying on us to win games mind, if we play like today we could have played to midnight and not scored.
I think we have to be relying on other teams pal. I want the top 4 to be tight as Susan boyle pussy LOL so all the teams have something to play for. Before united plays next the gap could be 1 point to.

Question for you lads... If you were guaranteed another season like this season or last season in the league (not the League Cup), would you prefer a relegation or to stay up?
Only team to do it in the Premier League era is Fulham in the 07/08 season. 27 points at this point. They stayed up on goal differnce to Reading on 36 points
Statsniffer - I knew I didn't even have to tag you and you'd find it Cheers Bry, doesn't make good reading for Burnley on 26 points then.
Moth to a flame Terry!! If you offer me relegation this and winning the league next season or staying up this and another scrap like the last 2 years, I'd take the former though!!
difficult, if you could predict that we would come straight back up then I would go relegation. if looking at what has happened recently with wigan etc then I would stick with another struggle but hope things turned round the following year. we cant go on like this forever though??
