Id still far rather be keeping a tried and tested player whos done it like Wood than splashing millions of his transfer fee on someone that mightnt work out at all at Leeds
Quite agree. Only LL would sell him without hesitation. For 2 bob and a second hand straightjacket, going by his assessment of 'lucky' Wood.
More likely Antenucci, he who walks on water. Pretty sure he'll claim that Antenucci would have scored 237 goals without trying this season if he played up front himself.
On the subject of strikers or attacking players, Roofe has been my biggest disappointment. As a person I love him, you can't help but want him to succeed but in reality he just hasn't got it. I would possibly add Antonsson as well but I question if he has had a fair crack. Some strikers you look over their history and season after season they just know where the back of the net is, I was hoping these two would fit that bracket. I remember the day we signed Yeboah, I had never heard of him, I looked up his stats and it filled me with joy just seeing that he scored goals wherever he went. Viduka was another, it just seems an impossible task trying to uncover the next
The thing is, Roofe is a striker & we play him as a winger. Which he can play, but we didn't buy him for his wing play - we bought him because he scored goals for fun. There is also the reality that jumping 2 divisions was an obvious shock to his system. I think he'll be a revelation next season. He's provided us with 7 assists & 3 goals, I think. Not bad for a 'winger'. Only Hernandez has provided more assists (8), but I think it was yourself that correctly pointed out that a wodge of them would have been from set pieces. Who knows what a consistent 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 might bring next season. My biggest disappointment has been Bridcutt. Midfield is where you want a leader & he just hasn't cut it at any level with any sort of consistency for me.
I would certainly give Roofe another season due to his age. I remember Beckford taking a while to settle. I wasn't that impressed with Bridcutt last season to be honest but with both Evans and Monk wanting him and being virtually top of the shopping list I figured they saw something I didn't. The same as Mowatt, how he kept being given chances I have no idea. Although in the breakfast debate I am moaning about the quality of signings I do admit Roofe would have been a gamble I would have still taken. Annoyingly he hasn't found it easy yet Leicester can dig even further down and grab Vardy who hit the ground running
You going in drag with a song book in your hand on Saturday? Totally agree about Pontus more unjustified hype than a Tory manifesto. Wood going means replacing all the forwards/wingers and midfielders and changing playing styles because we were so reliant on his goals. Our shots on goal numbers are truly awful.
Can you sell a player you don't own? Surely would be wiser not paying Torino the £3.5M and just send him back and give the £3.5M to Monk to use!!
True enough - Be interesting to see if he gives Torino the full £3.5M or if he tries to back out of it like he did with Cameron Stewart! Edit - He was right not to sign Stewart, just went about it wrong!!
Hopefully he won't back out, we'll keep Jansson, & if the right offer comes in, we'll sell for a massive profit. Then again, we're going to get promoted, so we'll prolly keep him
Why would we want to do that ? If Saint are prepared to pay £15 million surely we would use our option to buy then sell.
