i know we've got a lot of Aussie convicts on here but do we have any New Zealander ex pats??
Just wondered if any will be going to the Tests.
I'd love to go over and do one. Probably not NZ as we're going to get stuffed...
Anyway beaten today by a club side. It's not looking good.

I don't think I will, but a Lions Tour would be my ideal retirement gift to myself

Just watched the highlights. Not good. Piss poor line out throw right at the death.

    My son plays union.

    He is a thug.

    I watch union.

    I am a toff.

    You are correct.

As long as you're paying your 40% tax that's ok.

No one on here has ever said they lived in NZ as I recall.

Since I have been in Aus(almost50 years) I have never missed a Lions Match in Sydney(last here 2013). It really is a great day out. Next tour 2025? Could have done one by then.

Loved playing the game for 3 years in Hull back in the late 50's. Played for Hull Tech College and sent match reports to the HDM.
My report was always about 200 words long and they condensed that to around 20-30!

Later played for London Uni and Vale of Lune.

You're saying League is draughts. Well done.

For the record I think they're both ****, but Union is far less ****.

    I am
Played both so it's an informed opinion
Enjoyed playing both, but league is a piece of piss in comparison to union

Neither is a patch on football as a spectator sport though

I played half a season of league for Fenners. Returned to playing football as I found it too tough. Then on to union which was far easier.

    I played both codes.

League st school and 6th form college and union in the army.

80% of the games I played centre and 20% stand off.

Got flattened in both codes and can say you do a lot more graft in the centres in League, sometimes hardly made a tackle when playing union.

Still prefer union though, league is boring in my opinion.

In terms of fitness and physicality there's no comparison, league is far tougher.

Both are about even on technical skill, league requires better handling and passing, union requires rucks, mauls and scrums.

Union is tactically far more complex though.

Both codes of rugby have changed a lot haven't they? I'm not a fan but the rules keep changing. Are they the same games they were 50 years ago?

Fitness and physicality wise it depends what position you play
League players are more even regardless of position. Union is more like that nowadays but when I was playing back row at union it was a lot more physical than centre at league which I also played

Across the board though all league positions are very physical

Technical skills are similar but there are more skills needed in union (scrummaging for example as opposed to 'leaning toward each other a bit' in league!)

Tactically union is much more complex as you say
