Best Driver: Lewis, well deserved. Worst Driver: A few team mates outperformed this weekend, but Sainz seemed off from his breakdown in FP1 Best Rookie/New Driver Ocon Best Team: Merc Suprise Team: RedBull Worst Team: McHonds Best Overtake: Seb on Ocon Most Surprising Result: Ferrari off the podium Least Surprising Result: Lewis Funniest moment: McLaren winning the boat race Excuse of the week: Sky trying to convince everyone that Merc is 2nd best Special Mention: felt for Max and a great recovery from Seb Best post from the race thread: Race Rating: 8.3/10
It had it's moments... Vettel's recover drive, Ocon, Perez potentially costing FI a trophy, but with absolutely jack going on out front, I just didn't dig it all that much. Felt a bit robbed tbh.
Best Driver: Hamilton. Exceptional qualifying lap and peerless during the race. Worst Driver: So far as I'm concerned, Perez. I know this might be controversial but in the circumstances, such utter selfishness is not to be admired. Others were poor too: Magnussen, Ericsson, Sainz, for what they did on track, as well as Palmer for what he didn't – as usual. Best Rookie/New Driver: Ocon. Surely there can be no doubt about this. He is a genuine threat to a very strategic, clever team mate – and yes, I mean that in a positive sense for Perez; his style is economical and quick. Best Team: Almost Force India but they have a team member who doesn't want to be a team member. Mercedes. Surprise Team: Worst Team: McLaren. Best Overtake: Vettel v Ocon. Most Surprising Result: Sainz's uncharacteristic error. Least Surprising Result: Vettel beating Räikkönen no matter what happens to either. Funniest moment: Sir Patrick Stewart obliging Ricciardo's penchant for serving champagne. Excuse of the week: Whatever Perez comes up with will be the least excusable. Special Mention: Alonso and Ocon. In very different ways, both showed that being a nice guy in a competitive world is more than OK… Best post from the race thread: I'll edit this if I get chance to read it through. Race Rating: 8.02/10. Lots happening despite no challenge for the lead. But this is Grand Prix racing, not (still not – if only just!) something served up primarily to satisfy short attention spans!
Best Driver: Hard to choose, but I guess I have to go for Hamilton. Vettel's lock up in his first quali run possibly cost him pole, and his decision to stay out a little bit too long possibly cost him 3rd, Lewis didn't make any mistakes I saw. Worst Driver: I'm going to say Perez, I think he was lucky both he and Ocon finished and he gained points, how the works teams view it when they go looking for a new driver is another matter Best Rookie/New Driver Ocon, he looks better and better, and made a wise decision at T1 when Vettel came through. Best Team: Mercedes Su(R)prise Team: FI, (THERE'S A ****ING R IN SURPRISE) Worst Team: I'll say the Honda Racing Team, rather than McLaren. Best Overtake: Vettel into Ocon, I didn't think he'd make it when the car started snaking, Most Surprising Result: Strollololol in the points, he was very wary, but that'll be a confidence boost Least Surprising Result: Any Honda Alonso drives dying before the end. Funniest moment: Jean-Luc ditching the earl Grey for a shoey Excuse of the week: Something Palmer says. Special Mention: Danny, Best post from the race thread: Race Rating: 7/10 missing a bit of action at the front, and was a bit quiet mid-race, but Vettel's bid for a podium made the end.
Well you live in hope - it seems that both Ocon and FI have taken the suspense out of the whole thing
