They'll almost certainly be sides going through with just one win, or with three draws. It's an almost pointless group stage, with 16 of the 24 teams going through - it's basically nothing more than a two week seeding process for the last 16.
Agree that we'll beat Russia. If so will probs only need a point from last two. If Wales win their opener too i can see us playing out a draw with them.
Yeah it's great that more teams have had a chance to qualify etc. But does make it a lil bit ridiculous imo.
I can see Slovakia beating us. They looked good against Germany the other night. If we don't bear Russia then we will be a joke.
Didn't look anywhere as good as Slovakia though. Our defence or lack of it scares the **** out of me.
We should really win the group. Even if we come second, we only have to play the runner up of Group F, probably the least scary group. Would take a lot to not reach the last 8*. *if everything goes as expected we would play Portugal, who we are better than. Just don't take it to penalties.
Yeah same here was just making the point that you can't take too much from friendly results. We're by no means a great team but still better than most and I'd expect us to be in the top 2 in that group.
I can see Wales just playing counter attacking. Have Bale as striker then just have him sit on the half way line. Smalling will **** himself when Bale runs at him. Least I will be on holiday when I watch it.
And to my mind, far too many teams. I would prefer an 8 team tournament as in the 70s but I suppose we have to cater for the mediocrity now with the likes of Slovenia and Slovakia. I would prefer the quality over the quantity and on a straight knockout basis. However having this many teams is going to prove ludicrous. When does the tournament finish? July and then the players are back for pre-season training with maybe a two week break, not enough to heal injuries so they will have to resort to steroids!!
I just hope the referees clamp down on the acting. Watched the Cl final and Pepe was rolling around in agony after a little foul, looked up to see where the referee was, and then continued his shameful acting. I hope Mark Clattenburg takes a look at the game to see what he did well and where his weaknesses were. His number one weakness ignoring said acting. When a player is fouled and starts rolling around in agony 5 metres one way, and 5 metres back he should be instantly shown the yellow for blatant cheating.
When I voted for other there wasn't an option for Australia!! They are taking part, aren't they? And if they are not, they should be as the country is full of expats from European countries.
