    Current Position:
There are now 2 games to go - ignoring goal difference this is the number of points City need to guarantee certain things (I have put in brackets the team that impacts on that points total):

To be Champions - Objective Achieved

To go Up - Objective Achieved

    3rd Place - Objective Achieved

    4th Place - 0 point - Objective Achieved

    5th Place - 0 point - Objective Achieved

    Make the Play-Offs - 0 point - Objective Achieved

Of course this assumes that our opponents will win every game they play (which is impossible given they will play each other).

    Remaining City fixtures:
    Chesterfield (A) - Sat 25/4
    WALSALL (H) - Sun 3/5 (12.15ko)

    When will we clinch it?

There are now 10 games to go, so the run-in has started - ignoring goal difference this is the number of points City need to guarantee certain things (I have put in brackets the team that impacts on that points total):

To be Champions - 24 points (Preston)

To go Up - 19 points (Swindon)

    3rd Place - 17 points (MK Dons)

    4th Place - 11 points (Sheff U)

    5th Place - 7 points (Bradford)

    Make the Play-Offs - 6 points (Chesterfield)

Of course this assumes that our opponents will win every game they play (which is impossible given they will play each other).

    Remaining City fixtures:
    GILLINGHAM (H) - Sat 14/3
    CREWE (H) - Tue 17/3
    BARNSLEY (H) - Sat 28/3
    Oldham (A) - Fri 3/4
    SWINDON (H) - Tue 7/4
    Preston (A) - Sat 11/4
    Bradford (A) - Tue 14/4
    COVENTRY (H) - Sat 18/4
    Chesterfield (A) - Sat 25/4
    WALSALL (H) - Sun 3/5 (12.15ko)

    When will we clinch it?

As each game passes with us gaining points the certainty of our promotion just gets better and nearer. For the 3rd place team to just catch us in the near future we have to lose 5 and they have to win 5 games so unless you really think we will get that bad I believe we are in the best position possible for an auto spot. Every game that is beyond the next 5 makes life look even better for us.

For every game that passes, providing that we match or better the results of our nearest rivals, it brings us closer to promotion and the Championship (in 2 respects!). It will soon reach a point where we are promoted.

Games are starting to run out and we are going to be L1 Champions and win the Paint Pot Trophy. We will hopefully get a record number of points under the 3 points for a win regime.

    There - I said it - Mr Pessemistic !!

It's been a truly epic and fantastic season and I just hope we keep our concentration for just another few games and see it through in style

Anothr home win tomorrow (against a team that's come into a bit of form since Justin Edinburgh took over), and there will be just 9 games, or 27 points to play for.

By the time the Swindle game rolls around we will hopefully be in an unassilable position

Another point gained - will be ups and downs on our journey:

    3rd Place - 14 points (MK Dons)

    4th Place - 8 points (Sheff U)

    5th Place - 4 points (Bradford/Rochdale/Barnsley/Peterborough)

    Make the Play-Offs - 4 points (Bradford/Rochdale/Barnsley/Peterborough)

Crewe is a must win. They are the worst away side in the division conceding more than 2 goals per game on their travels, and I'm sure SC will remind the lads that one of our 5 league defeats came away to them so revenge is needed.

Barnsley at home is no longer the home banker it was before Junior took over there. We also need to get maximum points from Oldham, Swindon, Coventry, Chesterfield and Walsall.

City of old under various managers would have totally capitulated away to PNE, so it will be interesting to see what happens

    Pinch yourself a moment…
We are talking about when (not if) we will be crowned champions.

Come a long way already with Mr Cotterill haven't we !

Presto's next three games are against 3 of the top 7 form teams viz Peterborough. Fleetwood and Barnsley. If they win all three I think we are in trouble (for the title)

If we consider promotion to be imperative, and to be champions as the thing we can run at AFTER we have secured promotion, I reckon we need 12 points as soon as possible. 4 wins. I say that because Swindon could go on a great run and win 7 and draw 3 (one of which would be against Preston of course, and another against MK Dons) giving them 91 points. I think everyone would agree that would be an amazing run, but lets imagine it was possible. Even if they do, they can only reach 91 points. We need to win the next 4 games and we are up.

Every game that is played by Preston and Swindon is a potential banana skin.

So why am I still nervous....

only 4 teams can realistically stop city from being champions
only 6 have a mathematical chance to stop us from Play offs a loss or draw by Bradford or Rochdale and guaranteed top six
the consequences of PNE v City
currently PNE max 102 pts City 107 PNE win 102 play 104, draw PNE 100 pts and City 105 City looking for 19 points from 24!

I HAVE PUT ALL OUR FIXTURES INTO "THE MIXER" =

Last 12 games, home record, away record, last 6 games, points against teams at top or bottom, opposition factor of desperation = "chance to get play off's ! auto or champions.. and rounding down CITY POINTS ON EACH GAME =

City will get 11 more points before the end of the season! that's the minimum they will get........... so target is 94 to beat! ...95 needed so
PNE can only afford 2 losses and a draw, / 4 draws & 1 loss / but 3 losses likely runners up
Swindon can only afford 1 loss or 1 draw
    MKD cant make it

I have designed a clever little spreadsheet which allows you to enter W, L or D against the remaining matches of the City, Preston and Swindon. I predict City to accumulate 98 points (4-3-1) , Preston 94 (6-4-0) and Swindon 89 (6-1-2).

If anyone wants a copy please email [email protected] as I cant figure out if I can post a file on this thread

Is our defeat at Preston in your predictions?
