And if they win it again, it will benefit the two just above them in the chase for the EL places. As it is they are chasing are one of three teams chasing the two EL places. The other two being Celta and Athletic. However, I am sticking with Villareal to win it this year. I secretly tipped them a while ago, back in February prior to the Round of 32!!
Here you go Tom! While digging the Saints 76 Cup stuff out of the attic, I found this programme from a game I played in .... My son was flicking through it and spotted the ref. I never knew I had been reffed by him (mentioned Rob Styles this week) and it is the same one. I don't recall him giving too many yellow cards to one player though Our keeper that day was Andy Woodman, former Palace keeper and now Newcastle keeper coach (unless he followed Pards)
While in the attic, I also found these tha were my mums. A collection of coins of FA Cup winners and then a collection of club badge stickers. Some of the old'uns may remember collecting these themselves. My mum was great, a proper footy mum.
I don't remember the club badges but do remember the coins. I think Esso did some for a World Cup as well - '74 maybe?
Page 1 of former top class referee Clive Thomas's autobiography. On why he appeared a somewhat controversial figure sometimes: ...Neither did I make a concious effort to wage war on soccer administrators across the globe, whether by resigning from the South Wales Amateur League or by telling the President of FIFA [João Havelange at the time, Blatter's immediate predecessor] that I felt he was not capable of recognising the problems that existed in the game... This could be a good read.
No, it must be later as I was only 2-3 during the 66 World Cup, in fact, the final was on my 3rd birthday. It was so nice of those thousands of people to be so cheerful on my birthday Maybe it was the 1970 WC, as I was more interested in the pretty little coins than the football!
Yeah, I'm sure they did one for the 1970 World Cup too, but I'm about 75% sure Shell did one for 1966. My eldest brother had a Shell garage from about 1964 onwards until he retired. His attic was littered with coins and glasses, and anything else Shell used to proffer to get people to buy petrol.
My parents have the complete Esso 1970 World cup coin collection. I remember vividly going into the garage on the way to the beach and you got a coin for every 50p of petrol and the excitement when it was my turn to open the packet holding the coin. Oh how times have changed - I wonder how much you would have to spend these days for a coin - it seemed an awful lot of money back then.
When all these coin, glass, you name it, offers were over there tended to be an awful lot of stock hanging around. I know that Shell never took it back, so I can remember making loads of coin sets from the leftover stuff, Eventually one ended up with a few dozen completed sets, several partial sets, and a spare stack of coins. As far as I know they're all still in the attic. He never throws anything out.
