It'll go away for me. I'll have my fingers in my ears.

It's not actually as ridiculous as the one that Chelsea are going to buy Vardy and Dembele in January. <laugh>

Indeed. I expect they'll give it those few days and then it'll be as if Koeman never said a thing.

It probably won't actually go away on 1st Feb either, the headline will likely just be changed to reflect the fact that we have stood firm about not selling him in January. "However, sources close to the player reveal that Mane is still desperate to join Man Utd/Chelsea at the earliest opportunity and would be willing to hand in a transfer request to force through the move in the summer. Man Utd/Chelsea are confident of sealing a £25-30m deal at that time."

This headline will continue to ignore our stance on not selling unless the fee is genuinely top dollar, and that £35m+ will probably be the amount we'd require for a player of that ability, in that position, at that age, with two years left on his contract at that time. Meanwhile, the whole saga dragging on in print will likely see the player's form dip for the final part of the season, as his potential new employers encourage him not to compete against them in their quest for Top 4/6 and also lower his price.

Will be very interesting to see what happens for us with Mane in comparison to what happens with Mahrez of Leicester. Sure there's some differences (Mahrez is 9 months older, and has 1 year longer on contract), but that's still a reasonable point of comparison imho at the present time.

Does anyone ever take anything Paul Merson says seriously?

Not Jan. But Arsenal have already contacted us about him.

Merson doesn't even know the difference between between Wanyama and Mane judging by his commentary of our goal, so you really never know what he's on about. <doh>

Such a strange one. Morgan is faaaaaaaaaaar more an Arsenal style player than Victor, yet they didn't want to pay for him.

Are there any prospective Right Backs available that we could get in January, capable of stepping up to the plate straight away?

Trippier has fallen entirely out of favour with Spurs; wonder if he'd be happy with a loan spell.

I'd be amazed if they allowed that to happen.

Can't see Spurs helping us mid-season.

Depends where we are relative to Spurs in January, but I'm dubious that they consider us enough of a threat right now that they'd balk at loaning us a backup RB.

On the RB front, I really like Gillet from Anderlecht. He's 31 now so wouldn't fit our normal pattern, but I think he'd be great as a rotation option for us.

I'm not sure I can see us signing a back up RB. Not unless they are a young RB.

If Ron sees Cedric as being good enough to be a first choice RB, then there is no desperate need to sign a back up. We didn't last year for Clyne, and we didn't really this summer for Cedric.

But the fact that he isn't featuring anywhere near as regularly as Clyne (and remembering the lack of back up) suggests to me that, at least at present, Ron doesn't see Cedric like that. He's our Chambers to our non-existent Clyne, if you like. So if we are to sign a RB, then I'm going for first choice RB - or at the very least, another young RB who can develop. And you don't get those in January, generally*.

*Note the lack of the word "but" or "unfortunately" etc. Personally, I think Cedric is fine. I really like him. Yes he was very poor against Stoke, but everyone has a poor game at some point (though not Virgil yet!)

Not looking forward to the transfer window; the press frenzy is building up and, as usual, we will be subjected to rounds of inept, lazy and fabricated stories - it shouldn't bother me but I know that it will get under my skin very quickly.

I would be surprised if we went for anyone this transfer window: loan or signing. Would be great to get some cover RB, but think it unlikely. As others have said, do not foresee any departures, the club has been consistent on this issue even if the press seem to ignore all the club have to say on the matter.
