Fans are a funny lot. Before the summer I'd have been wanting a Liverpool win, but now I don't want them to get anything. I really want Brenda's comments to come home to roost.
I'll admit that when I was a kid and in my earliest days of going to The Dell, my second favourite team was Liverpool because they had Chris Lawler in their team [don't ask me why, I don't know either]. Anyway, sanity came to me around the time that Mum made me my Chelsea kit [about 1970, and I've told that story several times] and although I was never a confirmed Chelsea fan, it has left me with the tiniest lingering soft spot for them, especially as one of my football heroes, Peter Osgood played for them and us, and because way back then, Chelsea were just a very good Cup team, with no real pretensions to trouble the league title. It was fairly easy to like them or at least think them harmless. So, I never want Liverpool to win anything, and certainly not these days, and Chelsea I can usually put up with, as 95% of their success has happened in the 21st century. They've spent most of their existence being one of the alsorans in the top division, so I don't begrudge them too much.
