Some of you may remember that for 6 years I helped organise volunteering programmes to Bhopal India, scene of the Union Carbide gas disaster in the 80s., and supported children's charitable groups including a warehouse that supported boys rescued from railway platforms and a similar private house where a couple housed and supported 30 boys and girls. Well this film had just come out... and is based on the true story of a little boy who got lost on a train and ended up in squalor. This is such a moving film and so parallels our experiences over there. I was blown away, moved to tears by it when we saw it last night as it was so authentic and reflected the children we worked with in the short spells we were there. http://lionmovie.com/ A truly memorable film. I recommend it to you.
I was watching your featurette and Seb piped up "Is that 'Lion'? I want to watch that." Looks excellent. Is it 9 year-old friendly?
Whatever the film (and I look forward to watching it on Amazon), hats off to you Yorkie for your efforts in Bhopal. Nasty business there. Mrs HF did a bit of "youth work" in Sri Lanka back in the day, around that time, teaching life saving and first aid.
thanks Fez... I think there are about 80,000 kids in India who are homeless and life by the railways...so anyone can only make the minutest difference.... mind you any difference to just one child is worth it........
