Pele's just pulled out of lighting to the torch at the opening ceremony tonight, as he's too frail. In fact, he's not attending at all. Doesn't sound very good.
Drug cheats everywhere. Oh aye some lovely arses but just not interested in it at all. Who gives a **** if we win a gold in one man yachting or summat.
I had the privilege of working with some disabled people, and the things many of them have to put up with just to get through the day was a revelation, and humbling. To see what some of them achieve in the Paralympics, and the positive attitude they adopt is inspirational. It's no good mythering about what you can't do, if it gets in the way of what you maybe can if you set your mind to it.
Irish boxer drug cheat. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/bo...athlete-test-positive-drugs-Rio-Olympics.html
Mum & Dad are in Rio at the moment, they arrived yesterday & appear to be enjoying things. Dad even got up to the statue of Christ The Redeemer to see the torch being lit......but they have had one of their bags nicked putting a dampener on things a bit
Olympics not been the same since they stopped doing it naked. And as a manifestation of the idealised appreciation of the perfection of the human form. Or being rubbed in oil before completing. And being bronzed. And male only. That's not gay. It really isn't. It's just upholding the original ideals.
I easily emphasise with your sentiment, Dutch. I'm not sure of how it fits with the wholesale derision of Olympic athletes, though. Some credible posters posting some incredible ****e. Still, I suppose it takes less effort than being a drug-free, last in an Olympic event, hard-working, obviously unappreciated athlete. What sort of a world are we living in? P.S. Sorry, just used your post to vent my spleen.
Will watch a bit of it and support the British athletes, their hard work shouldn't be ignored because of other countries cheats. I'm optimistic that most of our lot are clean but no doubt there will be the odd cheat amongst them. I don't subscribe to this 'they are all cheats so am not watching' thing as the ones who have sweated blood and tears and are clean deserve people to see them compete.
This got me thinking - what are the very worst Olympic sports? What just wouldn't you watch and what makes you think 'why is this even in here?'. I'll put forward the backstroke and butterfly. Why do they exist? We haven't got a backwards running race or one where runners have to adopt a much harder, much slower spazmaquad running style. Honourable mention for the walking race and golf.
Not too sure if it's because it's all qualifying and not any medal competitions yet but all the stadiums have shocking attendance. The tennis, rowing and hockey have all been pretty much empty
Let me guess... they're all drug cheats, apart from us? That's usually how this mentality works, isn't it?
