The Lib Dems will have a great chance to regain seats in the West Country which has traditionally been their territory and is substantially Remain. The Tory MP's ousted will have to be made up by seats taken against Labour elsewhere. Possible it could be a catastrophic election for Labour

Maggie May is doing this as one of her advisors has been keeping an eye on the current opinion polls...

As the country faces a snap election on 8 June, current polls indicate Labour may face an uphill battle to regain seats from the Conservatives.

A YouGov conducted earlier this week and published on Sunday revealed that the Tories are enjoying a 21-point lead over Labour on 44 per cent vote share to 23 per cent.

Similarly a poll for The Independent by ComRes released at the weekend found 46 per cent of voters would pick the Tories – compared with just 25 per cent for Labour, 11 per cent for the Liberal Democrats and 9 per cent for scandal-hit Ukip.

    Seat projection on latest polls:

    Con 400 +69
    Lab 162 -70
    LD 10 +2
    Green 2 +1
    UKIP 0 -1
    SNP 54 -2
    PC 4 +1
    N'Ireland 18

    Con Majority 150

    1:26 PM - 18 Apr 2017

One seat projection by political blogger Iain Whiteley, based on these polls, sees the Tories winning another 69 seats on top of their 17-seat majority with Labour set to lose 70.

The Liberal Democrats could see an increase of two more MPs on top of the two they have gained in by-election victories in recent months.

When it comes to who the UK public think should be the next Prime Minister, a whopping 55 per cent favour Ms May staying in No 10 Downing Street compared with just 18 per cent who would prefer Mr Corbyn.

Very clever move by Theresa May in my opinion. Labour party in complete disarray, with a complete clown as a leader. Lib Dems probably in their worst position for years and as for UKIP......
And hopefully Jimmy Krankie on the other side of Hadrian's wall will get a pasting, but I doubt that unfortunately.
Tories by a landslide for me.

Actually think the Tories may win a couple of seats up here....there are a few areas that, although Nationalist, still want Brexit - specifically the North Sea fishing communities. In the last Scottish Government election, the Tories were the big winners, reducing the SNP stranglehold so they no longer have a majority (unless they team up with Patrick Harvey and his Greens). And whilst the SNP will push hard for a mandate to get another referendum, the Tories will play hard on the Remain in the UK strategy, winning a lot of Labour "NO" voters over - one thing for sure though, I doubt Labour will win any more than the one seat they currently hold, and will probably lose that.

    In two minds about this

The EU certainly needs to know that the UK is serious about negotiating a decent exit deal and having a strong (ie large majority) UK government would help this

    But.....

...an effective democracy needs an effective Opposition

One thing is for sure - plenty of bullish!t from the politicians for the next few months

How many countries' citizens would love the ability to vote, have the chance to democratically influence their own future etc etc.
Please vote, whoever you vote for.

I used to be really interested in politics. Until I see a political party that I think is worth voting for I will stay away from any polling stations<ok>

I'm not a huge fan of so called free market capitalism or socialism, communism. Where does that leave me?

Until a radical new and fair (fair in politics<laugh>) way of governing humanity emerges I will not bother!

Politicians left or right don't really run our country or the world, big businesses pull all the strings in this very commercialized and more often than not corrupt planet we all live on.

I probably won't be able to persuade you otherwise but even spoiling your ballot paper is better than not voting since you've registered your displeasure of the system as you see it. Not voting can be interpreted as apathy.

I see that the possibility of a GE has helped Stg. to reach new recent highs but has pushed the stock market down to recent lows,

Just had a lovely evening out in Barcelona, come back to this news.Good, disMay will win but if she gets a big enough majority can ignore the ultra nutters in her party and compromise on Brexit a bit. Don't trust the polls, I suspect Lib Dems will do a lot better than forecast. Goodbye and good riddance UKIP.

The revolution will not be televised, but you can read all about it here on the general election June 2017 thread. Aussie is going to be my deputy PM if we get in<ok>

We haven't a clue about it, or how to sort it, but at least we are honest!

Pledges like tax free week. Also introducing a four day working week where Fridays are a fully paid day off for being lazy and drinking and or eating too much. This would be funded by taxing the rich football clubs like Man City/Chelsea etc...<laugh>
