I think 1936 Nazi Germany comes to mind when political opposition was banned and the Nazi lot took over the radio and free speech was banned.
....and Hitler took his supporters to final disaster!

  3. On the day that Dumpf claims that drugs are cheaper than candy, his advisor attacks Evan Davies of the BBC for 'fake news'.

Now, I don't know where POTUS gets his supply, but he might like to share it with the rest of us <laugh>
(Mind you, I can get Ibroprofen and Paracetamol in Tescos for 30p a pack which is half the price of a KitKat so I guess he might be right :emoticon-0102-bigsm)

I was just thinking talking to Trump does resemble talking to an addict. He's got the wheedling combination of laughably bad lies + furious attacks. Below is from Fox News, who are well known for favoring Republicans:

""(Trump) keeps repeating ridiculous throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we're some kind of fools for asking the question. Really?" Smith said. "Your opposition was hacked and the Russians were responsible for it and your people were on the phone with Russia on the same day it was happening and we're fools for asking the questions?"

Fox News has turned on Trump, after he's spent the whole time defending and promoting them.
    He's done.

Now they'll try to take Pence and the party out of the firing line.
Trump and some of his cronies will be sacrificial lambs.
This can't be allowed to happen. The whole lot are implicated.

I certainly hope so. Pence and the current Republicans are appalling, but are unlikely to blow up the world or destroy the Republic--well, they're unlikely to do it in four or eight years, anyway. All bets are off on Trump. He claimed he won the greatest electoral margin since Reagan. It was actually the sixth biggest margin, after the two victories by Obama, the two by Clinton, and one of the two by W. There are bats in the belfry. There are toys in the attic.

What Trump needs to realise us that whilst he may support Putin's Russia ( allegedly! ) nobody else does. The senate are vehemently anti-Russia. As are the rest of his own party, the state department, the CIA, the FBI.....etc, etc...

If he thinks he can fight all of them on this, he's going to come second, imo!.

He may be caught between Iraq and a hard place, as there's no obvious reason for him to be so pro-Russian other than Russia having the goods on him.

His fellow Republicans are divided between welcoming our new ant overlord and swimming away from a sinking ship.

For a guy who must have enough skeletons in his closet to fill a cemetery, he should maybe be a little more careful about pissing off the intelligence agencies!?.

  10. Russian media no longer dazzled by Trump
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39004987

Seeing as the Russian media is controlled by Putin and the Kremlin, this doesn't bode well for Dumpf.
The phrase 'putting all your eggs in one basket' comes immediately to mind - and may not have been such a good tactic after all <laugh>

“It’s time to pay a living wage, to pay your taxes, and to give your workers the benefits – and peace of mind – that come with stable, full-time contracts."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau making controversial statements, again.

“Increasing inequality has made citizens distrust their governments. Distrust their employers.”
“And we’re watching that anxiety transform into anger on an almost daily basis."
"It follows that people’s natural defence mechanism in times of stress and anxiety is to hunker down and recoil inward."
"To give into cynicism. To retreat from one another."
"But it’s time for us, as leaders in politics and business, to step up.”

I can't think of what's prompted that. Nope. No idea.

If the Pro-Brexit lobby wanted a boost, it doesn't come any better than Tony Blair supporting the opposition.... <laugh>
Pity, because his arguments are all valid.

  17. Or indeed when it comes to alleged leaks from the FBI and other Security agencies. He was perfectly happy to spout on allegations about Clinton during the election. Doesn't seem so happy now he is the target......

  18. And his attack on the media as 'the enemy of the people' is also meeting some opposition
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-39015559

A particular quote extracted from that article is especially pertinent, coming from Carl Bernstein, a reporter who helped to bring down Richard Nixon with his reporting on the Watergate scandal. He tweeted: "The most dangerous 'enemy of the people' is presidential lying - always. Attacks on press by Donald Trump more treacherous than Nixon's." :emoticon-0138-think

Unfortunately--very unfortunately--Trump may very well last not just four, but eight years. The usual solution for problems like his is war, and he's about the last man in he world who would refrain from starting one. That doesn't mean it will solve his problems, of course. Everything depends on his popularity, or lack of it. Republican leaders would, I think, mostly enjoy impeaching Trump and getting one of their own (Pence) in. But they wouldn't dream of doing so if Trump seems to be helping the Republican brand, or at least not hurting it much. Everyone might also consider that Trump's demise has been exaggerated a number of times already. According to recent polls, while his unpopularity as a new president is unprecedented, he still has forty odd percent of the people backing him--which is about the most damning indictment of the American people I know (not that they're particularly thin in the field). The man has made the Three Stooges look like peerless statesmen.

Things in other words look pretty bleak overall, I think.
