Demolition has started today and is expected to take three weeks. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image It's a shame we're losing such an iconic building, but there really wasn't a realistic option for a change of use. It's due to be replaced with a hotel, but it's a Manor Properties development, so we might be waiting quite some time.
Bit different to what Newcastle have done with a similar building, I despair at times at Hull's destruction of its past. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Locati...68642069-Gateshead_Tyne_and_Wear_England.html
This what it's supposed to turn into, but Manor Properties have possibly the worst reputation of any developer in Britain... please log in to view this image This exciting mixed use development, due to open in mid 2017 will create a new oasis within the City, to be anchored by a 169 room Radisson Blu hotel, sitting alongside a 45,000 sq ft super casino, along with over 15,000 sq ft of new restaurant/bar opportunities within a central piazza and a roof-top restaurant above a 24 storey residential tower block, together with a cutting edge 625 bed Qdos Student Homes accommodation.
Now I like these threads. As someone not living in the area, they're a great insight to whats going on. I also show me dad them, who then prattles on about what he got up to in his youth near them too. However, isn't this exactly the sort of thread you were complaining about turning our forum from a football one into Facebook? I disagreed with that post you made about it, and I'm pleased to see you're not following your own demands on the rest of us. So, what's the problem with Manor Properties? I've never heard of them.
Philip Akrill is the problem. But I'm sure there are people on here who know far more than me and can lead us through his murky story. http://www.not606.com/threads/hull-city-centre-part-2.134784/page-4#post-2581447
This isn't the sort of thread I was talking about at all, local stuff generally generates a lot of discussion and is generally popular(and we normally have plenty of off-topic threads on various topics), it's the stuff that has little relevance to anyone that I was objecting to. Stuff like how often some 26 year old member of the royal family goes on holiday, or crap gags aimed at an individual poster, the sort of stuff we have to merge all the time as they clutter up the board and generate almost no comments. Manor Properties are owned by Phil Akrill, he's bought several sites in Hull(and other places), but he doesn't fund developments himself, he just sits on them until he can find someone else to fund them and as a consequence he's sat on a lot of property that's falling apart, most notably the Lord Line building. http://www.mpg7.com/
I agree with your sentiments entirely. The Baltic is wonderful. As is The Sage. And The Millennium Bridge. But they're in Gateshead, not Newcastle. It's a West 'Ul, East 'Ul thing. Just with impenetrable accents. Point of Order: I guess half the Millennium Bridge is in Newcastle.
There's only the original part of that building that's of any architectural interest, the latter office extension is an eyesore. Finding someone to take that building on and conserve and convert it, would have been easier said than done given the location and the other complications of the site
yeah, a sort of dumb waiter thing that people go in like a loop with one going up and one going down permanently running round which you step on I think it was there anyway (unless it was at the shotgun cartridge place nearby)
