He fumbled that Toure shot in the first half and you are thinking "Oh no Kelvin!", but he made a world class reaction block to deny Aguero, and in truth barely put a foot wrong after that, and made some really good saves. Thanks Kelvin, and well done for 300 appearances. Legend is an overused word, but he is a real Saints one.
Southampton F.C. Goalkeeper Appearances: 1. Tommy Allen - 323 2. Kelvin Davis - 300 3. Eric Martin - 290 4. Tim Flowers - 251 5. Peter Shilton - 242 6. Bert Scriven - 233 7. Paul Jones - 223 8. John Christie - 217 9. George Clawley - 191 10. Peter Wells - 160 Mr. Tommy Allen's final appearance was in 1928, so basically Kelvin has made the most appearances for a Saints 'keeper for the last 87 years.
As I have already said Kelvin has been a good servant at the club. He deserves the accolades he is presently getting and more and yes it would be nice if he had a testimonial. It would be a big hole for saints to fill should he not be kept on in some sort of role in the future. An excellent ambassador and diplomat.
SKD said (after the match) that Clyne had his 100 match shirt and he hoped that he would stay for 200 or 300. Go on, Nat...you know you want to
I think someone said that he has one season left....I hope that have a post-career job for him. That's the trouble with me...can't sack anyone....I'd keep all the old retainers as pets.
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure how long it was for, surely he'll be a coach when he does retire anyway?
Ah fair enough. I figured that was why they gave him the last match.would have made sense to finish on the 300 caps with the last match of a fantastic season. I'm not complaining though he's a legend!
I can imagine he will remain a 3rd team goalie this year and a 4th when Fraser returns! All the while getting his coaching badges and slotting in as under 21/18 goalkeeping coach.
