More like the best run clubs in the Premiership. I refuse to believe there aren't any better run clubs in the lower leagues. I might be biased, but off the pitch (and excluding a few dodgy managerial appointments), Portsmouth have been incredibly well run over the last few years: Massively increasing income, wiping out debt, improving the stadium, building a new training ground...

Though before anyone misinterprets me, I do think Southampton are pretty well run and deserve their place in the list (and, grudgingly, first), there are perhaps other clubs in the list which I doubt should be there. For example, Tottenham.

I agree you have done very well over the past few years and it is good to see (genuinely mean that as well), however you're not really suggesting that you are one of the better run clubs in the country are you?

Problem is, everyone still associates you with the basket case Pompey of a few years ago. It'll take you a while to shake that off.

Partly agree about Spurs and potentially other clubs. I think the list is all Prem clubs because well run is coupled with success normally. Also there's nothing on the article bout criteria etc. So think it's just someones opinion.

I agree. I hope Spuds copy your model of the last 10 years :)

Absolutely. Do a Bournemouth and get back to the Prem from League 2 and you will deserve to be up there, but with all respect, survival is about all you can do at the moment, and I know what a miracle that is in itself.

Like some of the comments below...ManU fans especially. Someone pointed out their £360 million debt, but apparently when discussing well run clubs, only fan numbers matter....think they are missing the point there. :) Another suggest that prudence has nothing to do with football:headbang:

I'm very happy that Saints is a club with a plan and am quite happy if our progress is slower but maintained. :)

Whilst I think we agree we deserve that first place, the text explaining our position doesn't really do it justice. It's not all about "selling our best players for as much as possible" or even just being sustainable. It's all about developing and achieving great things, and doing it sustainably.

Not sure where "the new training ground" comes from?!?
If you mean taking some so the land from health centre then it must be new.

Load of ****. The only reason you're stable at the moment is because you're selling mediocre players for huge profits. Let's be honest there's no such thing as stability in football. You're only as secure for as long as the owner decides to stick around. 5 years ago you were in administration, easy to forget. Literally every club is inches from oblivion.

Sorry PL, I thought the new Pompey board made a bit of a mess over their first two seasons, esp' when it came to picking poor managers and laying pitches. Cook's the real thing though. As always it's the fans who'll set up the basis for stability and success. 14000 gates in L2 should do it. :)

I think if our owner left we would be fine as we're self sufficient with the PL tv money. One thing I notice about a few clubs in the list there's a running theme of a few clubs who have been promoted but invested a lot in infrastructure. If only you lot had done that when you were in the PL n you probably wouldn't be in the basement division for the 3rd season running.

If the owner left, we'd be fine as long as we continued the model (which is the reason we've been quoted as the best run club). The owner isn't pumping untold millions in - the whole point is that we're a sustainable club now.

Anyhow, the article is on 'best run clubs' not 'best run clubs if their owners leave' - the latter would have been odd, and based only on speculation. Not sure the editors would have run with that, just to appease an upset Pompey fan....
