Just wondering what you lot do with 'old' food?

I've chucked out quite a bit today, most of which could have probably still been eaten, but I'm a sucker for a sell by date, especially with meat and dairy.

Eggs I won't even touch if they're within 3 days of their use by date.

    What about you?

Not much gets thrown out in my house.

Eggs last well beyond their use by date. If it floats to the surface it's gone bad, if it's anchored one end it's good, if it's laying flat it's spanking fresh. Very rarely you'll buy eggs that fresh in a supermarket as they'll have been laid an age ago. So you're probably chucking them out the same quality as you bought them in. :p

Sell by dates mean **** all, even the use by date can be extended by a few days (depending on the food item). Never chuck any food away me.

Exactly the response I was expecting.

Just me being a wasteful sod then!

Actually laughed like a dork reading H&A's Human Dustbin analogy.

Even when the bairns bring home their school lunch boxes... I'm straight in eating the leftovers.
Usually sandwich crusts and wet biscuits where the juice has spilt.

I went to a posh restaurant in Manchester about a month ago with a marra from Rochdale and the waiter was horrified when I finished off the plates of the other 3 people with me. If it's paid for.. It's fair game IMO !!

    Hahaha <laugh>

I can imagine the disappointment on your face when your kid has polished off their full lunch!

I usually eat whatever the Mrs doesn't eat in restaurants unless she's ordered fish.

It doesn't get thrown out if it can't make its own way to the bin in my house!

Mustard on the sofa is best, but it must be french mustard - it always sounds better when you say you're eating Chaise lounge.

    That's french for panackalty

my missus is such a good cook (I'm not bad too either <cheers>) hardly any food gets wasted ... besides bringing up 4 kids if it isn't eaten the same day by the following day it usually is, we try to avoid processed food much prefer fresh and natural fare
