I've got an HDF photo clipping of that very Ex-Tigers team, Nicky Barmby as mascot included. Must find it & post on here.
Billy Bremner signed for City in September-ish 1974 ( from memory) and the only testimonial I remember him taking part in at Boothferry Park before then was Chris Chilton's v Leeds, May 3rd 1971, 7-6, attendance over 27,000 and I recall it was the first game ever to be played with no off side rule for one of the halves as least. It was also the first game that the South Stand 'Choir' moved en-masse to the East Stand. Footnote; When Stan Coombes retired Dave Dewberry and Graham Ollett (RIP) who were to become the chair and vice-chair and founders of the Action Group organised a collection amongst the members of the Social Club under the North Stand and Stan was presented with a brand new black and white television. Which was nice.
The old memory plays tricks on me, you are of course right but my original point stands. The Stan Coombes Testimonial in which BB played was about 1983 ?
Phew ! A relief we didn't have points deducted after those youngsters ran on the pitch at the end of that Chelsea game.
When installed in 1963 the floodlights were considered to be amongst the best, if not the best in the football league.
Has been posted somewhere on the board before. The match "missing" is coverage of the first game played at Stamford Bridge the previous Saturday with the 2-2 draw, the Wagstaff goals and Harris suspect handball, which I have rated as the best away game I have attended. 'Tigerscanada' tried unsuccessfully a while back to locate some footage from the match.
I have to agree, even though have had many great away days watching city, the game at Stamford bridge still sits up there as one of the best away days I have had.
