We are top of the league...for home grown players. Great to see. http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-3016292/Stop-kidding-homegrown-stars.html
And no club comes near the quality of our youth products....6 full internationals and an U21 England Captain including the most expensive player in the world.
Plus, our Academy players who haven't quite made the PL fair litter the lower leagues. You can point to any number of matches and there will be an ex-Saint academy player in there. Then there are the ones Saints let go at some point in their early careers. Burnley have three of them in their squad at present.
Well maybe we just bring one of those back in the summer to add to our home grown quota I have an Ingkling that won't happen now though
"We're top of the league, We're top of the league... We are Southampton, We're top of the league!" There, I feel better. I've missed singing that.
Indeed. I think it might be a surprise if Danny Ings ever returned to Saints. More likely to go to AFCB when/if they come up if Burnley don't survive. Not saying that would happen either.
If he's not good enough for Saints he won't be going there either. Not saying they are better but neither club have a track record of signing unproven strikers. Ings isn't the full measure in the PL yet.
He will be on a free, I think one of them will take a punt. We are talking about clubs who not too long ago spunked millions up the wall on unproven PL players like Carroll, Adam and Soldado.
Carroll was a revelation at Newcastle. Soldado was the same in his own country. I assume you mean Charlie Adam..? Creative midfielder. Yes, they took a punt on him, but they had others. I don't think they'll change their instincts to buy proven players, or if you believe they took a chance then perhaps they're cured. Ings just isn't a top 6 striker yet, in my opinion. If he's on a free [I had forgotten that], then that changes the dynamic. Almost any club could take a look. Including Saints.
I believe the thought of most is that he is good enough for us and Liverpool or Spurs. I think he is.
Why does Ings look so old....doesn't fit our beauteous standards. Targett obviously an outlier (sorry, Matty ).
Sounds like you've not been impressed with him enough TSS? I was questionable when there were summer rumours because I hadn't seen much of him. I have seen more of him this season and I believe he could blossom here. Good touch, good work ethic, good movement and good finisher. More importantly he also seems a good fella to fit 'our way'. I'd not have been disappointed if we had paid £5-10m for him in January. As it is now, he'll be on a free and one it two other clubs will show him the money!
Yeah, for me he needs a little more. I'm sure he will get better, and maybe Saints are the club to improve with [seeing as he might be free], but as a straight transfer in to strengthen the squad, I think we ought to be looking for better. Incidentally, looking at him, I still find it odd that he's U21.
Danny Ings has scored 9 goals in the Premier League, playing for Burnley. Seriously, what else does he need to do to convince people he's worth close consideration at least?
Yeah, with our record of improving players, Jose, Rickie, Jay etc I reckon we could turn Danny Ings into an England regular.
