I cycle a lot, and cycled down the Raywell section last Sunday, and I agree with you Cyclists that ride 3 abreast need their heads testing. Not only is it discourteous to other road users it is dangerous. I occasionally go out with a group and we ride 2 abreast at most, but drop into single file if there is a vehicle coming up behind.
Don't quite see your point - you've found 3 pics of silly ****s dressed in football kits, none of whom are me, whereas every single middle-aged fat **** on the road thinking 'if only I'd taken this up sooner it could be me injecting foreign blood into my veins on the alps' squeezes into ****ty lycra of a weekend.
Great ride by "G" yesterday, and Froome has but some time between himself and is main protagonists, good day for the Brits. Don't discount "G" Thomas to be up there at the end if Froome fails to make a challenge.
It was three pictures from 1,000's. Not all cyclists wear lycra, anymore than all football fans wear replica kits. Generally, when a cyclist does, it's because it's appropriate for what they're doing. Quite a few will have been doing it longer than you've lived too.
I've never seen anyone, on the road, thinking they're ****ing Miguel Indurain, not dressed in Lycra. FACT.
Wow, do you earn a living from this mind reading talent of yours? It's not hard to guess what I'm thinking right now.
You shouldn't really drop into single file. It just makes the obstruction longer and tempts the impatient ones to sneak past or go for it on corners. I don't mind waiting until there's a clear straight to overtake. In fact, when I'm following a struggling cyclist going uphill on a hot day and they're desperately waving me past so they can stop pretending that they're fine, I quite enjoy it.
Just something I'd put into Room 101, I've had several experiences recently where I've been stuck behind them for 8 or so miles or they've taken up the whole lane and then shouted abuse because I honked for them to get out of the way after 10 minutes of following them. I know the road can be used for things other than cars, but the things that aren't cars need to be aware that they're at risk and ensure they are at their safest. I don't fly past cyclists or horses, I always slow down on single carriageway roads to go past. But I'm frequently being cut off by people wobbling into the road or not being safe, somebody the other day as I was coming up to the junction at Willerby rode past my driver's side door and shot out. It's clear who the beginners are and who the experienced riders are because honestly its the latter I have no issue with.
It's a fair point, I ****ing should. I think they should just grow up, as I said I learned to ride a bike when I was 6 and I don't feel the need to dress up as a day-glow **** to show off about it.
Maybe you should try it, and see if it brings any relief to your built up inner turmoil? Clearly, whatever you've tried so far hasn't worked.
It sounds like you need some additional driving lessons. If they've done over 8 miles in 10 minutes, they're not holding you up.
I actually agree with you if it is a big group, but my group is either 3 or 4 of us. So you are the bastard that sits behind me in a car on a hill and laughs as he goes past.
It shouldn't make much difference. The overtaking vehicle should pretty much move to the other lane even if it's one or two bikes. By staying abreast, there's less to overtake. Single file is a longer line to pass, or possibly several overtakes rather than one.
Was just going to post that, if you're on a normal road ie one lane either way, going into single file sort of invites those behind to squeeze past. Always told learner motorcyclists on 50cc bike's which are restricted to 30mph to take the whole lane, don't ride in the gutter.
