    Trio return

BBC Cumbria report that a behind closed doors friendly at Darsley Park on Tuesday saw a Newcastle United XI beat their Carlisle United counterparts 3-1.The game was arranged to give some pitch time to a trio of returning Magpies, with Siem De Jong, Mehdi Abeid and Gabriel Obertan all included in the starting lineup.A day short of his 26th birthday, De Jong completed 45 minutes and found the net, equalising after Mark Beck had beaten Freddie Woodman to put the Cumbrians ahead.Further goals from Lubo Satka and Jonathyn Quinn then won it for the Magpies, with Adam Armstrong failing from the penalty spot.Abeid and Obertan were both withdrawn midway through the second half while Jonas Gutierrez completed the full 90 minutes. The likes of Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic were also involved but Rolando Aarons didn't feature.

    This is great news IMHO.
We should have quite a tidy midfield soon...
We just need Senegal to drop out of the ACON asap..

how quick did you want ??

    Senegal knocked out

Having watched Senegal's opening two matches at the African Nations Cup Finals from the bench, Papiss Cisse was introduced as a 54th minute substitute against Algeria on Tuesday with his side trailing 0-1 in Malabo.

However the Magpies striker found scoring opportunities hard to come by and it was the Algerians who doubled their lead in the closing stages to seal qualification.

That result coupled with a 2-1 victory for Ghana over South Africa meant that Senegal failed to qualify for the Quarter Finals - as was the case back in 2012, just days after Cisse became a Magpie.

Great news, we have some good players coming back in. Disappointed Aarons is not fit. I watched that Gray for Birmingham, I'd happily sell Gouf, Sammy and Jonas to see him come in. Him and Aarons flying down the wings would be great. Obertan's pace has been missed big time. That ability to stretch the game to create space for Sissoko is huge.

Abeid is Colbacks natural partner. Its time to move on from Tiote. SDJ could be a great option either up top or sitting behind Perez/Cisse.

Hopefully we can turn the corner, we just need a ****ing centre half on loan!

Can't see it, could have Tiote back tomorrow as Ivory Coast are out if they lose.

Carver will pick Tiote. Pardew did a great job with Abeid, got him sorted with a great loan, brought him back and gave him his chance. He is better suited to our game plan, him and Colback can keep the ball for fun.
