Members of the original not 606 site (hereafter referred to as the old forums) will notice some differences. Here is a brief summary of the most notable ones: Private messaging. This feature is replaced by Conversations. To the right of your avatar (top right of the display) is an envelope. Click on that and you will see a list of conversations in which you are currently engaged. You have the option to start a new conversation, list all conversations, or just list conversations you started or those that you have starred. When you select a conversation, the whole conversation is presented in much more readable form than on the old forums; more like posts. There is no option to delete conversations; you leave them, with an option to receive further replies. For this reason there is no need for an archive facility. At present, there is no facility to create folders in which to file conversations PMs that were deleted on the old forums were not physically deleted and have been converted to the new site. You could remove these “deleted” PMs from your list by selecting all and marking as “Left”. However, selecting all only selects a page at a time so it could take a while if you have a lot of PMs. Alternatively they could be left in the hope that, at some stage, this will be achieved automatically for you Alerts. To the right of the Envelope is a Flag. This alerts you to anything you are interested in; a useful facility. Click on the flag and all the new alerts will be shown. You just click on the alert to view the details. You can also set your Alert preferences here Your News Feed. Notifications of those you Follow. Mates will be converted into People You Follow Thread Prefixes. There is an option to add one of the available prefixes. This will highlight the thread in the colour shown in the option list. Also by clicking the prefix on a thread it will pull up all the threads with that prefix Posting images directly from your desktop. Any image on your desktop can be dragged into a post or can be pasted. For example if you use the Snipper tool to select any area of your screen display, it places that selection on your clipboard and anything on your clipboard can be pasted directly into your post Posting files directly from your device. Files with allowable extensions can be dragged into your post. For example if you have a PDF File you want to share, just drag the file name into your post and from there it can be downloaded by the reader(s). Things that are missing As mentioned above. No facility to organise messages (conversations) into folders No facility to create albums and store photos No Rep Value. Rep points converted into Likes Usefultips To keep an eye on your specific forums, navigate to a forum and select the Watch Forum. Then if you hover the mouse over Forums (at the top) you can select Watched Forums To keep an eye on a thread and be notified of any posts on that thread (see the Alert Flag top right), go to the thread and select Watch Thread. Also under Forums selecting Watched Threads will tell you if there have been any updates If you want to chat with one or more people, click on the Envelope, next to your Avatar/Name (top right) and start a conversation. The Alert Flag will tell you if there are any unread messages Clicking on your Avatar/Name will show you your Profile Page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To read about why this test site has been created please see The Reasoning Behind The Move Mobile users please read the final para in particular -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to the Horse Racing Forum Home Page
Thanks and Happy New Year to you also The site is still be worked on wwith lots of comments being fed back since implementation. It's likely the Look & Feel may change a bit.
At the foot of the page (above About Us) you should see "Default Style". If you click that you can change the style to "Alternative" and then reverse it to compare the two versions. Any feedback welcomed.
I'm not touching the ""Alternative" tab, for as soon as I do, everything will fly off into the cloud never to be seen again. And don't call me a pessimist, what I have now fills me with optimism.
I tried the alternative, but wasn't so keen. If I had to I'd probably get used to it, but I have already got used to the default, so why bother?!! Question 1: It shows you how to find "watched" forums, but can't see how to flag one as a watched forum. EDIT: found this Question 2: In the blurb at the top of this thread, it says you can copy and paste an image directly into a post - you can't. At least, I can't. (Using laptop, not device, and assuming that jpg is an allowed format) Observation 1: I wasn't too fussed about Rep Points on the old forum, don't know how they were gained and wasn't too interested in finding out. But now they have been converted to "Likes" I can see I am the most DIS-liked bloke on here
I just dragged this in. How were you doing it Reebs? Re the alternative, some people were not liking the amount of grey so Mick has put up an alternative style as a test. I don't think the intention is to go with one or the other; it's an attempt to please everyone (ie you select which style you want).
The blue version is now the default with the grey being an alternative. Although both will be available for a while Mick would like to settle on one at some stage. The blue version is a later version and a bug some of us have encountered intermittently with the display and editing of posts with the grey version has not yet emerged on the blue version.
Hi Ron I start a post like this .... Then I open a pic on my laptop, right-click copy, then return to the post to right-click paste ...... except you can't, as the paste option is "greyed" out. Using the "Upload file" option is only useful if you have an alternative web-based photo hosting site to point at. Slight edit - whilst replying to this I have discovered that using the snipping tool on that opened picture, copy and paste works like this...... It's not brilliant - as you can see the shot has an unwanted 2 sided white border, but if that's the best I can do then so be it!
Trying it .......................... ok that works thanks But only after certain conditions have been met - there seems to be a max data size, but doesn't say what it is, just that the file is too large. And only certain formats I'm suspecting - which presumably exclude PDF? So advance planning is required before posting ...... not my strong point
PDFs are accepted. I've requested the allowable file extensions and max sizes be published Looking in the Xenforo site I see 1024 is the default but they can be set much, much higher.
Ron, apologies but I'm a bit of a technophobe. Every time I log on and I comment on a thread I automatically am then watching that thread and I get a little flag every time a further comment is made. I can disable it each time but it doesn't hold. Just wondered how you permanently disable this function. Cheers
Hi Chan - hover the cursor over your username top right corner. Click on "Alert preferences" then un-tick the boxes for items you don't want
