    I know that this has been said before (by me, at least) but TalkSport's focus is not on providing reasoned debate about events, it is there solely to generate income for the owners (OK, probably a tad harsh, but it is not a Public Service broadcaster)
    The simplest way of getting people to phone in is to take a very one-sided view of one club that has lots of "fans", who probably never go to the games, but consider themselves linked to their team for some forgotten historical reason (eg Moore, Peters and Hurst winning the world cup fifty years ago).

    The fans then ring in on premium-rate phone lines, either to defend their club, or to agree whole-heartedly with what has been said, and what they witnessed, in person, on their Sky TV. Saints fans are usually more level-headed than most, and this doesn't make for good radio (or television). I would not be at all surprised if Leicester fans felt similarly ignored last season.

    The interview with Steven Davis, after the Saints caller, consisted mainly of the presenters asking Steven what it was like to play at the (ex)Olympic Stadium, and what Slaven Bilic now needs to do. Steven, to his inestimable credit, fielded these questions with grace and aplomb, and simply pointed out that the Southampton players had been looking forwards to playing in West Ham's new stadium.
    There you go, 'inestimable' and 'aplomb' in the same sentence!
