It's a large enough steak to make 2 meals out of it, so yes Dave, I'll try it.

Chatting to the butcher in Tesco yesterday about slow cooking beef and how tender it is and he said if you're slow cooking it go for a cheap cut of brisket, once it's cooked you'll never know the difference.

I'll let you know a bit later if he's right, I'm sure he must know what he's talking about!

Used to work in a Butchers shop and he's bank on the money Dave. Brisket is the most flavoursome cut and makes the tastiest gravy but you do have to know how to cook it.
Another great cut is shin of beef, try making a chilli in the slow cooker with it cut into small cubes, awesome <ok>

Cheapest cut available, and ideal for 8 hours in a slow cooker <ok>
    If I can't get that, I like a bit of skirt <yikes> :emoticon-0115-inlov

I can confirm the brisket was truly scrumptious, I bought a topside joint for Christmas day, it cost me £7.51 <yikes>

The brisket, about the same size was £3.79 and tasted better!

Fillet steak for tomorrow's dinner, I must remember to get some stilton for the sauce, maybe a small bottle of Madeira to give it a bit more oomph!

I was going to make a curry last night but never got round to it, so tonight's the night.

King Prawn Jalfrezi, lamb samosas, onion bhaji, pilau rice and naan bread :emoticon-0110-tongu

Not keen on prawns, not keen on most shellfish really, I love crab meat but I'm allergic to it, brings me out in a savage rash. Never tried langoustines so I don't know what I'm missing there!

6 hour cooked pulled pork for dinner tonight, lovely with slaw and brioche rolls

I absolutely love prawns in thai food, but I've never enjoyed them so much in indian dishes. If they are saucy I find the flavour of the prawns are lost.

    Bah!

I've been feeling really guilty. I've been doing easy meals all week since getting the kitten. Buying fish cakes and just serving them with ready made sliced potatoes. Or doing Sausages and buying ready done Mash to heat up.

By next week, he should be more settled and less freaked out by all the sounds of cooking. I did cook a cheat roast on Monday, just searing the meat, freaked him right out. Really loud hissing and sizzling.

I bought some lean steak mince and a jar of madras sauce currently bubbling away in the slow cooker and the aroma throughout the whole place is wonderful! <yum>

I've also got some lean steak mince, but I will be cooking good ole spag bol. Plenty of garlic and red wine to give the sauce some punch and then some parmesan to round it off.

    Bah!

I did similar last night, except I much prefer linguine to spaghetti.
Some really lean, tender diced pork in slow cooker now, with all the usual veg suspects, including chick peas, red lentils and a (cheat!! :bandit: :police: ) jar of Morrison's white wine cook in sauce.
Oh, and a fair glug of chardonnay <cheers>
And some curly kale to steam, along with sprouts <ok> and cauliflower later this evening.
Not sure I've had kale before, but don't suppose I can go too far wrong? :emoticon-0112-wonde
