Jordan Henderson? Mickey Gray? When I started going with my mates we had Gordon Armstrong, Gary Owers, Dickie Ord. Brian Atkinson What about Gary Rowell Some of you will be able to go further back than me. So who was best player that remained a sunderland faithful And who was the best the flew the coop?
I would say Henderson as I could straight away he was too quality, I said he'd go on to play for England. However Mickey Gray I remember being fantastic and improving at Sunderland. Was with us right up to 7th place. Made a fair few appearances for us before going on to have a canny premiership career.
Raich Carter. Winning captain of League championship (1936) and FA Cup (1937) with his home town club - Sunderland. Stanley Matthews' nomination as his best ever inside-forward partner for England. Later, was FA Cup winner with Derby County (1946).
Monty, Toddo and I was fortunate enough to play in the same school team as Lord Rowell. I think because Monty and Lord Rowell stayed longer than Toddo they achieved probably what you could say living the dream with Sunderland. Monty's save at Wembley and Lord Rowell's hat trick at Sid James Park.....memories forever.....
Id say micky gray for now but think henderson will eclipse him. Those couple of seasons with gray and magic johnstone on the left were special .
Monty Todd progressed to bigger things We all hanve to say it was monty who is Sunderland through and through. ...........??
Between Todd and Rowell for me..as home grown talent. But it has to Rowell simply for that hat trick against the Mags...great day.
