Following my dereliction of duty in terms of matchday threads I am posting early this week so as not to forget. I accept the loss on Tuesday might have been the result of me not posting a matchday thread as had become the tradition. That's for the supersticious amongst us of which I regret to say I'm one. You know the sort of thing, wear the same pants and socks on matchdays etc.

Having looked up Cambridge on the stats, they were on a pretty decent run of results until the last 2 where the wheels came off. However before that they were unbeaten in at least 8. We on the other hand had a wobble, came good and then lost another couple in the last 5 games including this week. So form wise it's a bit difficult to draw a distinction between the two sides. Our form away has been pretty good all season notwithstanding Tuesday. Their form at home has been pretty good also notwithstanding the last one for them. Nothing between the two there then. Don't think this one is going to be easy at all.

We could do with a good result this weekend to line us up for the local derby match the following weekend. We win and Exeter have a shocker would be good. What could possibly go wrong........

I see you've forecast us to lose. Based on recent results, it's hard to argue for a win given Cambridge's recent home results.

You made me go and check my prediction there notdistant. Oh no I haven't. One thing you can stake your life on is I would never give Argyle to lose. Cambridge lost their last one at home. Like I said over the last 10 results it's hard to draw a difference between these two.

I suspect that with some of our new acquisitions we may have a slightly faltering start.

I'd punt for 1-2 to Argyle, Carey & Bradley to score after going 1 behind.

Hard one to call. I had a feeling we were going to lose on Tuesday and I have that same feeling we will lose tomorrow and against Exeter. The world on other sites will implode, Sensible will be apoplectic with JBs lack of ambition, and we will then stroll to promotion in a comfortable 3rd.

The trouble with taking the piss lyndhurst is you look even more stupid when you are wrong so pray on. At least I don't roll over and get my tummy tickled because he's the mesiah. I seem to remember people saying all these things about the last lot and what could have possible gone wrong.

I neither think he is the messiah nor get my tummy tickled. My problem is that I am not sure what he was supposed to do in the window that he hasn't. JB and DA have obviously spent some money on wages during the window but have kept things within reason. Purrington going or staying isn't going to impact on our season at all- I am not a football manger so I have trust in DA in the same way that I am sure he would trust me to go to strange foreign lands, fix bayonets and dispatch the enemy at close quarters. For the record, it was obvious to any sane person that the 'last lot' would screw it up by spending money we didn't have. Personally I think the current regime have got it about right. In the widest sense, it is always dangerous when ambition and ability are confused.

So you didn't particularly rate Purrington then? Well not enough to make any effort to keep him. The way Argyle deals with it's youth is not to deal with them much at all. If you were a local lad and had a decent amount of talent would you bother to look at Argyle? They get rid at the first offer that comes along and clearly don't want to give them much of a chance unless forced into it. If I were that lad I would be off up the road quicker than you could blink and look to go somewhere who might just value me a bit. Making Purrington a better offer at least shows some intent. Letting him go at the first opportunity shows no intent at all. And I'm not saying that Purrington was some World Cup star of the future either. He was good enough to play against Liverpool twice and not look out of place though. As well as spending money on wages they have also saved on them as well so lets not get into the Brent has spent money argument again. You think all he does is wonderful and I think he's a total tight wad who hasn't exactly spent anything at all on Argyle. Not quite sure where bayonets and despatching people comes from in this or what point you were making with it. As for it being obvious to the sane regarding the last lot, I don't recall hearing supporters bleating on about the crash that was about to happen. I do remember the shock when it did and all the very wise folk there were after the event. When you look at the facts after the event it was reletively obvious perhaps.

Purrington had the opportunity of a three and a half year contract and possibly tripling of his wages at Championship level.....next question please.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. A club of this size will always sell young, unproven players to make a few quid to spend elsewhere-it is the way the lower leagues work. JB is not my ideal owner for the club-but he is what we have got and isn't doing a bad job. It seems to be the trait of the football fan with a short memory that the club should spend money to keep average players that have been at the club for a while. Frankly, I have to trust the manager to make the right decisions to assemble a squad good enough to get promotion. That is the only objective this season. It matter not what players are bought in or let go, the final result is all that matters. Had Adams really wanted to keep Purrington then I am sure he would have. On balance , and taking all things into consideration, I guess it was no big deal to let him go. If he (Purrington) is very successful in the future than no doubt we will benefit from the sell on fee.

"A club of this size" just about sums it up for me. And we will never be a club of any bigger size because we lack any ambition. I'm guessing that your statement about keeping "average" players is your opinion of Purrington. I happen to think he was worth punting on and in the future might well have been worth a lot more. Not in a sell on percentage of somebody else's profit but of our own. If he was thought good enough to play for us then what's wrong with having some more faith in him. No kid worth his weight in gold is ever going to sign up for Argyle. It is clear nobody has any faith in it's youth. That tiny little outfit just up the road has shown us more lessons in youth terms than we have ever had.

Who in this squad has a three and a half year contract.....who in this squad is paid possibly the money Purrington is earning in a failing Championship club.....I would think no one.

There must of been a few players ahead of him in the pecking order at Plymouth....how could he of been offered enough in contract length and wages....without upsetting the balance of the squad....it becomes a slippery slope leading to disaster.....he was probably worth more than he was getting.....but without a serious sugar daddy owning the club it was never going to happen.

What we have forgotten is the FL's ruling on wages as a %age of turnover or is it just crowd size...probably works out the same.....isn't it 55% or is my ageing memory letting me down.

Derek Adams has a delicate balancing act to do to keep his players happy and a close knit team, a youngster jumping the wages/contract length queue would never work whatever money was available.

This is a big game for Argyle....having lost at Yeovil mid-week the thought of losing today and then facing Exeter on a two game losing streak doesn't bare thinking about......before we know it Exeter could be literally level on points......that's assuming that they keep steamrolling along and win at Home Park as well.

Who will Adams choose today.....will Matt Kennedy be straight in and will Ryan Taylor get his first start as well.....with Garita out injured at present there isn't too much of an option.....only six on the bench at Yeovil during the week.....injuries are getting on top of us even with a bigger squad.

Although we have won so many games this season....winning easily never comes easy for Argyle.....the chances we had at Yeovil in the first half was enough to have put that game to bed......will we have the players to feed off of Kennedy....he should find it easier than Championship defences today....we need to score more goals to counter the set ball defending that has been letting us down recently....our season needs to kick-start today and get our confidence up for the Exeter game.

One nil to Argyle. Sarcevic from Carey cross.

One up at half time. What could possibly go wrong given how the rest of them are going as well. It never lasts.

Interesting that Adams has brought in 4 of the new recruits, leaving out Jervis and Slew who've hardly been looking like weaknesses. He must think the new boys have improved the squad.

Argyle taking a pounding early in the 2ND half, especially down the left. Maybe the Sawyer/Kennedy partnership isn't working defensively.
