Will Keane talks about his season-ending injury and his recovery so far....

Taken from last Saturday's matchday programme

Will Keane admits his time as a Hull City player could have started better after picking up a season ending injury against Southampton in November.

The striker picked up a knee ligament injury against the Saints and underwent surgery as he undergoes a long route back to full fitness.

Keane suffered a similar injury during his time with Manchester United and is hoping that experience will aid him in his recovery this time around.

“To do the same injury twice is absolutely gutting but I have to remain positive and look to make small steps in my recovery,” said Keane.

“Having gone through it before I know it’s not an easy fix and I know there is a long way to go to get back but I have that experience under my belt.

“I know I’ll have difficult days but I know I’ll have positive days too. I know what it takes to get back fit and that is all I’m focussing on right now.

“Hopefully I can start doing some strength work in the next couple of weeks and the run up to the end of the season will be important for me to build strength in my knee.

“The pain when I picked the injury up against Southampton was like my knee ripping apart. I knew it would be serious as soon as I did it but just hoped I could avoid going through the same injury again.

“It is what it is though and I’ll remain optimistic about my chances of getting back better than ever.

“It’s far from an ideal start for me at this club but I’m determined to recover well and then show everybody here exactly what I’m capable of.

“The medical staff have been sensational with me and you can see how good they are having seen what they did with Ryan at Chelsea.

“I owe it to the people that believed in me to get back and I’m confident I’ll do just that.”

Keane has been joined in the treatment room throughout the season by a number of the Tigers’ first team squad.

Although he wouldn’t wish an injury on anyone, he admits it has been nice not to have to go through some of the dark moments of his recovery on his own.

“I’ve had a lot of company in the treatment room this season and that’s not nice to see from a personal point of view or for the club.

“I want our players to be fit because I know we’re more than capable of being in this division if everybody can get out on the pitch.

“I have enjoyed not being on my own that much though and that company has been important to keeping my spirits up.

“Obviously players like Moses Odubajo have been in the treatment room a while too and it’s nice to think we can help each other through the injuries.

“It’s a horrible time whilst you’re injured but it also allows you to spend a lot more time with people you perhaps didn’t know that well before.”

Although his interactions with new head coach Marco Silva have been limited, Keane can’t help but be impressed with his attention to detail.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with Marco and I’ve been really impressed with how he’s gone about his work on the training ground,” he added.

“All the lads have been impressed with his work if you ask them and hopefully he can make the difference for us as we come towards the end of the season.

“He’s certainly made a good first impression and hopefully I can enjoy playing under him once I get back fit.”

I have a weird feeling we might see Moses before the end of the season.

Keane looked so under qualified to be our main striker under Phelan, but like everybody else, I think he'll benefit from Marco Silva's influence.

The latest update from the Club’s Medical Department…

Following on from the injury picked up during Saturday’s game against Burnley, Harry Maguire’s knee has settled down well. The medical staff will continue to monitor Maguire in the lead up to next weekend’s trip to Leicester City.

Evandro, who missed the draw with Burnley, is progressing well in his recovery from a calf problem while Lazar Markovic is another who is moving towards a return to full training after missing out at the weekend.

However, Dieumerci Mbokani is set to be out for six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.

Curtis Davies and Michael Dawson continue to make good progress, although neither are expected to be available for this Saturday’s fixture away at Leicester City.

Markus Henriksen’s recovery from a shoulder injury will continue this week after illness at the weekend set him back a couple of days, while young goalkeeper Will Mannion will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. He is set to undergo surgery this week.

We do seem to have more than our fair share and certainly more than our squad can cope with.

We're going to be in a worse position than in the summer.

FFS we are bastard jinxed with injuries.

We are clear and outright leaders in the PL injured players list. Do we get a European spot for this?

That list doesn't sound too bad. The one's we should worry about seem to be the ones with the lesser injuries.

Potent and lethal are the first two words that come to mind when I hear the name Mbokani.
